Up for auction is a pair of NS-200M. Price is at the moment is the equivalent of 200$. They are smaller versions of the NS-1000 but i can't find much info on them. Are they worth buying?

Need some answers the next 12 hours!

Looking at the picts, they look very promising! They have "titanium dome tweeters" reading at some descriptions...

It would be good to audition them and decide after that...

Auction ends in just some hours so i don't have time to listen to them.

Audio-heritage doesn't have so much description of them like for example the NS-1000. They just tell they specifications. Al tough i found someone saying these are a little warmer than NS-1000 since these use titanium rather than beryllium mids/tweeters.

The NS200M has a similar (say 75-85%) sound to the NS1000 but the Be tweeters have a special lucidity and clarity that is hard to match (on well recorded material). The NS200 have a forgiving warmth and less of the 'listener fatigue' that many modern speakers. I've compared NS200s with $1K to $2K modern speakers they always come close and or better. Of course I'm biased because I always like the less expensive competition and the Yamaha NS sound of that era.

My trails and tribulation with the NS200 has nothing do with its sound but it its size. By modern standards they aren't really bookshelf/monitor speakers as we have come to expect. Being heavy they need substantial speaker stands etc ( more than you paid for the speakers). I would love to use them on my' desktop' system as they sound fantastic (I find that many modern speakers sound too bright near field) but they are just too big. Your kilometers might vary.

Well i ended up not buying them. Actually no one did so they are up for auction again for the same price. I am not really looking to upgrade my Pioneer HPM-70 and if i do, JBL will be the next thing. Although, if he lowers the price maybe i will buy them. But for now, i need to finish restoring my HPM-70.

Besides, i'm not sure i will like them (titanium tweeters = to bright for me).

I've heard some of these, and they are in no sonic way, shape, or form "little brothers" to the NS-1000's. If you want an interesting find, consider the NS-30X and NS-300X, yet be prepared for an updated crossover and pair of replacement woofers for the latter model. The woofers are terrible and the tonal balance is shrill, yet the mid drivers are quite good. The NS-25's are a decent model that was popular in broadcast studios. Completely avoid the NS-144's.

Very old tread but I will say that the comments of Nikko75 are far from correct IMO. I have owned both the NS 25 and still have my NS200M and by a long shot they impress me and anyone that listens to them. Yes the 200Ms dont have the major separation or the ultimate smoothness of NS1000M but for the value/sound im very happy. The great thing about these speakers is that I can listen to Jazz at low low volume and hear the detail expected and also listen to friends Dark Metal German stuff at very high volume and the effect is the same. Smiling I mean. I run the NS200M’s through a vintage Yamaha A-760 intergrated amp which sounds really clean to me. I was previously powering them with a RX-V2500 Yamaha receiver which is a great receiver but got the option to buy a matching era amp so i did. Anyway just my 2 cents worth.

Well I picked up a nice pair of NS-200M and am really enjoying them. Unlike most Yamaha speakers I've heard, these sound warm not bright, with a very creamy midrange. I can listen to them for days on end and never get fatigued, even cranking them really loud.
They're revealing, but not analytical. Bass is tight and defined but not excessive, typical Yamaha in that regard.
I'm going to fully restore them cosmetically and give them the royal treatment with real wood veneer.

A pic next to the tiny NS-1000MM:

I bought a pair of NS-200m speakers a few years ago and absolutely love them! I also own a pair of Pioneer HPM-100s as my primary speakers, but can't seem to part with the Yammies as a backup pair. They are well balanced, clean, and detailed. I primarily listen to rock but they sound great with jazz as well. The original speaker stands for these speakers were 14" off the ground. So I had a pair of custom wood stands built by a guy on ETSY that are 14" high with a 2 deg back angle.
