Just wondering which speakers sound better? I have a sx 780 pioneer reciever that's 45 w but some say it's more than that. I listen to all kinds of music just wondering cause I've heard bad things about the cs 99a

Honestly, it's up to you. Many would agree that the Pioneer's would do well with loud rock music, mostly because they lack the lower bass punch, and can sound a little thin at low volumes.

The Yamaha's are in a class of their own. While not the top of the line for that series, they produce a clean, flat sound with good detail. They too can seem a little bass shy.

Can you listen to them before you buy?

Not really. It's 2 different people selling and price is the same for either. I actually just realized the pioneers have different mids than what they're supposed to have. So now those are pretty much off the table now cause replacements for those are 60-100$ a piece for working ones.

I bought some NS-670's about 10 months ago for my son and his wife. After listening to them I kept them until last week when I found a pair of NS-1000M's. I made him promise to never sell them while I was still on this planet. I thought they were pretty good. No lacking in the bass department, at least in a small listening space with an HK 730 powering them. Just a really nice all around speaker

As a long time (Haven't used them in a couple years) NS 1000 owner I can vouch for Yamaha's slightly lesser offerings. They were always undervalued, and underrated. Merrylander ran a few pairs and they were impressive.

The guy that has them wants 350$. Is that reasonable to what you paid?

I paid 250, from a local AK'er, so may have gotten the "good guy" discount. I would say that they are worth 350, but should be in good shape for that. Seems like I saw them going for around 350-500 on the bay recently

edit-Just checked the auction site. Man, prices have gone up!
Let us know if you buy them and what you think.

They are in good shape. Only thing is they look to be mismatched as one looks to be a little lighter in color. Maybe one was in the sun? . All drivers work but I think your right for 350 they should be matching.

Sound always counts more to me than presentability. Veneers can be fixed
For sure. They can always be sanded down and re-stained. I'm gonna try to get him to 300 since I have to do that. In the meantime I just walked across my street cause they were having a garage sale and I just picked up some polk rt2000i speakers for 20$ and they sound great. That's the prices I like
