Was wondering why my bottom-end had gone away, my Yamaha NS-W1 from early 80's died. No light and no power. Took it to the bench, removed the bottom and side grills. I'm not electrically inclined at all. I have a multimeter and the service manual for it. Where do i start? No loose wires or anything obvious. Both fuses look fine. Power transformer? Can I find a replacement for it? TIA, Curtis

Remove fuses and check there resistance. Each should be less than 1 Ω.
Use your multimeter .. Looks can be deceiving...

OK, set MM to 20K resistance. It took 20 seconds, but it finally found it's way to 0.00. Tested both. 0.00.
OK, this caused me to try a couple of things.
1. Plugged lamp into outlet where subwoofer had been plugged in, worked fine.
2. Inserted the two fuses back into place.
3. Plugged subwoofer into bench outlet.
4. Switched subwoofer on, and it powered up!!! It's thumpin' away right now with my NS-10M's to some Bob Seger!
I had plugged it in and tested it at my bench prior to starting this process, and it had not powered up and the LED didn't light up.
Any idea why? Beyond, fuses just needed to be re-seated?

Possibly.. Does your AC plug fit in the wall outlet securely ?
I have plugged the subwoofer into 3 separate outlets, including original/final. It works just fine now.
