Hey all,
I have this posted in the Solid State Receiver section...but after a couple of days, I have not received any responses and/or support. So I figured I'd give the Yammie sub-section a holler.
In a recent purchase, I had a Yamaha RX-700u thrown in because the older woman was going to take it to Goodwill, so I gladly took it off her hands for free. I know that it could look like she was getting rid of it because it was broken, but I do not believe that to be the case. The Klipsch KG4's that I went there for were in stunning shape and she was selling them just to get them out of her house (She told me that they were her Brother-In-Law's and that he had recently passed).
The receiver itself is in fantastic condition and 99.9 percent of everything in it works perfectly. The only weird thing I found pertains to the Loudness rotary dial. I understand the theory, functionality, and intended purpose...
The problem with this unit is that as I roll the knob counter-clockwise, in an effort to make quieter listening more pleasant, instead of shaving the mids and adding bass and treble as it should, for some reason it minimizes (attenuates) the left channel significantly. It is hard to tell if the mids shift as I change the dial solely because of the rather abrupt change in balance. The channel in question still works (if I change over to it via the actual balance control, sound is still reproduced), but when I shift over to the right channel, at the same attenuated level, the clarity and actual volume is very different.
I have scoured Google and the archives here at AK, and have found no information regarding the Variable Loudness function failing, having problems, or even any malfunctions whatsoever.
In an effort to fix some things, I did open the receiver up and Deoxit the pot as much as possible; but the problem still remains.
Does anyone have any life experience with their Yammie Variable Loudness control acting up and/or does anyone have any fixes to said problem?
