my yamaha ca 810 made it home safe and sound. it has equal sound comeing out of both channel. but when i turn the balance nob to the left channel all the way both channels cut out .then when i turn it to the right channel it does the same thing but if i keep it in the center position they play fine both channels i have already cleaned all the switches with deoxit

I have a chance to get one for $185. It's from a second hand dealer that I have used before, so I know it's in excellent shape. Is that a reasonable price? Also, is it an amp or an integrated amp? Lastly, what are the power ratings?

Well I found out it's 65 wpc. I'd be using it with Klipsch Forte's, so that is plenty of power for me. I'd still be curious as to $185 is a fair price.

Some others, like my Reference 650 FET-R, at the second clic volume is too low and the third, way too high ... Very anoying !

In many amps this "switch" like volume control is fake. There is a small steel ball and a retainer clip at the back of the volume control to simulate costly volume control. Retrieve this ball with a sharp tool and you will rediscover the advantage of a truly variable pot.

The question really should be in Dollars and Sense, but as long as you ask, IMHO, $100-130 is a better price range for a nice one. $185...too high. Unless it comes with the matching tuner.

Id give it another dose of Deoxit,sometimes it takes a couple of cleanings and really working the knobs
and switches back & forth,Glad it arrived OK!

I meant there is no noticeable difference between Class A or AB running this Yammy ... I know it's same for other yammy owners.

My experience has been that with really good source and speakers the difference can be quite noticeable. Sometimes the change is just from sounding wonderful to real magic....

No "Class A" on the CA-810. Nonetheless, it is a fine amp.
I've owned its little sibling, CA-610II, since it was new (and I was much, much younger).

The CT-810 is nothing special, but it's perfectly OK and should sound pretty good.

heh. My CT-810 kicks the ass of my T-550.

as stated about the deoxit. clean all of the pots in the combined volume/balance assembly. Work them through their full range. They should clean up and you will have your balance and volume working properly. I had that same issue with a CA-1010 I recently acquired

Mark nailed it, the 810 does not do Class A.
