Yaqin MC-10L missing bass

I'm experiencing an odd problem with a new to me Yaqin MC10. Things seem to be working properly but the amp sounds excessively trebly and there is almost no bass below 80hz. The speakers are phased properly and rated to 92db so they should be efficient enough to be happy with this mid powered tube amp. I've compared it to a mid fi SS amp and there is a massive difference- the bass and low mids are all there so it's not the speakers. Would re biasing it make any difference? New tubes? I've tried both 4 and 8 ohm taps and this doesn't seem to remedy anything. I'm at a loss. It really looks cool but am worried that I'm expecting too much from it.

Well FIRST (after correctly biasing your tubes), get a 100 hours on them. The Yaqins are good amps, even with those stock Shaugun tubes, and take a long time to burn in as a whole unit. THEN judge and see if the bass opens up. Probably will. You'll go thru the same process when you tube roll. If you roll to something decent like the Genalex Gold Lion's, it will take even longer for the burn in and for them open up and let the bass come out.

AFTER a 100 hours or so on whatever set of tubes and you still 'think' there is not enough bass for you, you can always replace the coupling capacitors with metal polypropylene axials and double the uf from stock values.

Both these steps are common and rule-of-thumb.

FYI you do not measure the frequency response or anything else until your tube amp and the tubes are fully burned in. Your higher efficient speakers @ 92db are fine.

The problem lies in the fact that it is a Yaqin model. Contrary to what you can read on here (shills?) these are not good or even decent products. Pretty much any amp on the market - regardless of price point - will outperform these things.

You think:idea:
I have a Yaqin MC10T and it sounds very nice.
Yaqin gets a lot of good reviews contrary to your own.
Not good or even decent is a pretty broad statement

It would be interesting to see with a scope, load bank, and a frequency generator, how these do with a 20-20k frequency sweep at 1 watt and then at 10 watts.

And this is helpful?

Jim

LOL yes, a Chinese company that cant even bother to translate their manuals to something better than Chringrish is really going to pay people to shill their products... on an English speaking forum at that. What a moron.

Well, it is very possible that speakers are not compatible with low power tube amplifier. You may try to connect speakers to 4 ohm output of of amplifier. It may help a bit. But some speakers require massive amount of current to produce decent bass. With them only few tube amplifiers will work well. If impedance curve of your speakers was published somewhere, it may give a hint.

But generally tube amplifiers cannot provide deeb bass unless used with very special speakers. As an alternative you may decide to add subwoofers to handle everything below 100Hz. In that case you will need subweoofers with ine level crossover and connect it between your preamp and Yaqin used as power amplifier (with volume set all way up). That way lower frequencies will never reach Yaquin and it will operate in range with which it is comfortable with.

Many Chinese companies have badly written manuals. Actually it is also sommon for many Japanese companies, if they are NOT a huge multinational corporations. Yaqin gear is OK fr the price range at which it competes. If you need better - get Line Magnetics for 3-5 times more money.

Yea, early Japanese Fanuc technical manuals were next to impossible to read. Now they are a world leader in industrial automation. There manuals have also improved a lot. They also have phone tech support that is a model of how it should be done. First time that you call in they take all of the information and enter it into there database and you get a case number. They give you things to check and test to make. Next time you call in they ask for the case number, seems I always get a different tech, and start where you left off. Very efficient. No wasting time explaining things from the beginning. A lot of companies would do well to model there tech support after Fanuc's.

I ran an Yaqin MC-10L on my Polk Audio SDA SRS 1.2 TL's with no problem whatsoever. Plenty of room shaking, clean bass. Make sure the bias is set properly.

Shill? yeah right

The output transformer secondary may be miswired.
Try flipping the polarity on one speaker only.
Positive speaker wire to negative terminal
Negative speaker wire to positive terminal.

There is no reason to delay amplifier performance measurement any longer than it takes for bias current to stabilize. 'Burn-in' is a highly controversial phenomenon for the simple reason that it's not generally observable on the test bench.

If the OP says the amp sounds thin at the low end after everything else has been ruled out, and there's no way to get objective amplifier performance data, then it's a Mexican standoff. A listener's impression is unfortunately inconclusive, which the OP knows or suspects, and is the very reason this thread was created. I wish there was an easier solution.

Where's the "dislike" button?

I have a Yaqin MS-30L that I have run through Polk SRS SDA 2.3 speakers. There was no lack of deep bass with this combination. I expect all the 6.5 inch drivers and the 15-inch passive radiator contribute to this.

I have owned the original version of the Yaqin MC10L, a Yaqin MC10T and now a Yaqin MC100B. All have performed very well into my Tannoy 615 Dual Concentrics and visitors are quite taken aback by the dynamics and superb sounds achieved. But if you want to produce the sounds of the local rave then none of this will be any good. You will need to hook up some powered sub-woofers with reasonably high impedance inputs and drive them from the Yaqin outputs. The advantage of this, once correct levels are attained, is that varying the volume setting of the Yaqin will automatically vary the output from the subs.
Apart from that, speakers or their placement indeed the very acoustics of the room can either help or hinder the Bass obtained. Some have replaced the 4 coupling capacitors with Russian Paper in Oil capacitors and swear this had improved Bass. So looking back, I have been using Yaqin Amplifiers for over 10 years and very happy with the full frequencies obtained and this is all FLAT!
I do own an EQ unit but never found the need to use it.

I think swapping the wires on one speaker is a great idea. Trying a different input device might be wise as well. I doubt bad tubes would do that. Low output, yes, noisy output, yes.
I think it would hep if the OP listed the rest of the system.
