Yay - 2016 Winter FrankenFest time - Saturday Febraury 27th in Clinton, MA

That went pretty well didn't it? Thanks to every one for coming, and as always, it's great to see new faces.
A special shout out to Spikedart who handled the grilling, and to Joanne and my wife who were a big help with cleanup.
C6Bill, the Turkey was a treat, thank you.

Second half of the 511 B went into glue up today, by next fest I will have pairs of 511B, 811B, TAD TD 4004 horns, and hopefully an Altec 805 2x4 Multicell, plus a pair of pretty Onkens.
Back to work.....

Looking forward to it and your amazing craftsmanship Frank!

Rob, Nice to meet you and am glad you had the opportunity to meet the wonderful folks that make up our little band of miscreants.

I think you will see Brian's speakers again. If he doesn't bring a pair I will. I think I could be quite happy with a pair at the foot of my bed, and a have a Concept or four to throw at them.

As for A7's, It might happen that an affordable pair comes up for you (I drove to Chesapeake VA to get mine), If not, I have the plans on Cad and would be happy to help you knock a pair of boxes together.

Frank C.

Hello Everybody,

This is my first official post on Audio Karma and I want to first thank Frank for his invite to this great get together. I had sold a 511B Altec horn to him at the beginning of the year and he was able to do some amazing things with it… it blow me away. The Altec VOTT system he has helped me make my mind up that I want a pair of A7's with 511B's as my main system (some day soon). Also, I was able to find a 2nd Stromberg-Carlson slim-line "Full-Range" speaker that matches another one I gave my grandfather (Thanks to Motorstereo?). This week we will be building a cool speaker project with these vintage Stromberg's. I can't remember everyone's name but thank you Brian, Steve, Frank and Bob Z and it was great meeting you all. I wish I was there to hear Brian's speaker prototypes, hopefully sooner then later I will hear them.

Anyone with similar interest in reel to reel audio tapes, recorders and vintage microphones PM me I'd love to chat gear.

Kind Regards,

RSMRecording aka Rob

Here is how this works - We are all old friends by now, and we operate in an environment of complete trust and respect for each other, Status and braggadocio get left at home, and mutual trust is the order of the day. This frees all of us to simply enjoy each other. It's really that simple.
When I joke about our 60 second fest business meetings, it's really how it works. Jim knows I'll do what I do, and I know he'll do what he does, and it all happens; no muss or fuss. We set a date and it's done.
People step up when needed, and nobody has to ask.
I think it's a rare thing to operate with a group as large as this in this way, but it works, and I'm proud of everyone and lucky to be a part of it.
I should also remark that enormous talent resides here, and those that possess it are generous with it. We teach each other, and I cannot recount the times I've been the beneficiary of that largess.

Sermon ends, the congregation exits ;)

I have to say that you guys over there always seem to have the very best get togethers of just about any group on AK.
I am envious. To see all the pics and look at all that's set up for listening and for sale is awesome. I hope to someday attend one of these and meet some of you face to face. Probably learn a lot as well.
My bro. lives in Woosta' so I will def. have to plan my next trip around a 'Fest. (But then how do I get all my new-to-me gear home????)
Thanks for the pics and stories. Looks like a great time was had by all. As usual.

Great point about "trust." No matter what kinda beautiful, expensive equipment is laying around, you can wander away for an hour, and never have to worry about it. Everybody is at ease at one of these events ....

BB - I hope you can make it out here some day - I'm sure that anyone who's looking for an excuse to visit New England can be picked up at the airport or somewhere.

And to get your treasure home - Greyhound!

Reminds me of the old saying:
"Don't sweat the petty stuff, and
Don't pet the sweaty stuff."

A big thanks to Frank, Jim, and the usual suspects for another great party. It was great to see the fest regulars, as well as a few people who made their reappearance this winter. The beautiful Karlson horns were the hit of the day for me. I'd have gone home with those if I wasn't concentrating on other equally impractical hobbies. As it is, I'm helping Tony bring them home and end his marriage.

I'm another one who missed the upstairs listening room. I knew something was supposed to happen up there but by the time I made it up the stairs the fun was over.

Personally, I'm just playing it cool until someone brings a $15K pair of headphones that'll fit under my jacket.

I made signs for the upstairs listening room a few fests ago, and completely forgot to put them up. Damn. Next fest I'll remember to ask Frank to pull them out.

GD70 - nope, Frank gave them to me and I put one up in the hallway as you entered the main swap room.

I think we'll need to go with the bullhorn next time.

Rob, Anytime you want to come out to the shop with a stack of music feel free. You never got to hear the Model 19's. I must say the Onken configuration is growing on me, for one thing the horn and LF driver integrate much better. The A7's need 20' of room to sound their best.

One more addition. I had a lot of folks ask me about specs on the TAD Hibachi amps.

Here you go!

TAD website Description:
Hibachi II amps are built with discrete transistors, no integrated circuits. A classic class A/B design (not a digital amp) with a twist - Near Zero Feedback is finally achieved in this unusual top shelf sounding solid state design. The only solid state amps that reveal recorded harmonic information (like tubes). Directly wired without coupling caps for outstanding perfect phase timed clarity. 1000 year vacuum tube voltage regulator rejects power line noise. A high current 8-pound hum free toroidal power transformer feeds a giant film bypassed filter cap bank that promotes effortless high speed current capability. Hibachi amps reveal ear pleasing tube amp 2nd order harmonic content other solid state amps by design can not play. 205 Watts with 4-Ohm speakers, 180W with 8-Ohm speakers. Wow, what a great get-together! Thanks as always to Frank, and everyone who made it awesome! Can't wait for the next one. Maybe I'll bring some crap stuff to sell next time around... :D
How about you keep that BO TT off the speaker next time. It's not like we waited around for several hours for that thing to work...:dunno:

Hey, the Beogram 8000 has been behaving itself as of late! Once I figured out that it was allergic to Altecs, the problem was easy to remedy... :whip:

Jeez, one little incident at a gathering over six years ago, and they never let you live it down................
