Your Classic Rock Vinyl Collection

After several years of collecting Classic Rock vinyl. I'm pretty happy with my library of titles, which totals over 2500 LPs. Between original pressings and new re-issues. I have all the major artists covered, with full catalogs represented by most.

My main wants these days focus on 60's-70's UK 1st pressings and obscure garage and psych 60's LPs. These titles seem to rarely surface locally and I've had to rely on eBay and Discogs to acquire them with mixed results. I guess if I really wanted to...I could stop buying Classic Rock vinyl and be satisfied with my existing collection.

That said....I guess there's always 50's-60's Jazz for me to search for. But that's no easy find these days either! So how's your collection of CR doing? Is your collection pretty extensive? Are you still searching for major titles or down to obscure rarities to fill in the gaps?

I have over 15,000 lps in my collection, there is always more to buy as you expand your taste in music or start getting into complete discographies and import variations. The fun is in the hunt and the pleasure is in the music spinning on your turntable
 
my collection is up about 3,500, im pretty much done with the classic rock thing. the funny thing is though there is always some regional or low run psych or rock that ive never seen or heard. it seems like you get to a certain point and you really get picky about the condition of the records you take home. just last weekend i pulled prolly 12 dollar or 2 records from a flea market, they were nothing special cover or record upgrades, and the dude says $50.oo, im like whoa there buddie ill go 20 he says no, i say these are dollar bin commons if you think youll get 4-5 bucks a piece out of them then you better be prepared to load em up and take em home, he didnt budge, and i walked.
 
Somewhere in neighborhood of 1200 + titles. VG++ (excellent) condition vinyl is about my minimum standard now. I'm passing over a lot of vinyl due to condition (I'm cherry picking more than ever).

I'm mostly gap filling these days ... upgrading some titles ... culling others.

MOG is starting to change my vinyl buying habits. Some albums that I had on my radar screen are now off it ... others are on it for the 1st time. It's real handy to be able to listen to an album before buying it.

Farther back than mid 60's ... normally I just buy the CD (if it's not compressed), re-issue vinyl or listen to MOG.

Wow! 15,000 LPs. How many are Classic Rock? Since I live in a 2 bedroom condo, I could never house that many LPs. Total I have maybe 4-5 thousand and that's even pushing it! I have to be rather selective in my purchases these days or start to do some culling. Space is getting pretty limited for record storage in my case.
 
My taste is all over the map, and I buy according to artists with whom I'm already familiar or if I hear something new and likeable at a friend's house or other source.
 
I built a collection back in the 70s and 80s.
I hit something like 1200-1500 when CD took over.

I couldn't afford everything back then. One hit LPs were too spendy. I didn't know many of the better things. I came from a music desert.

I was "off" until about 3-4 years ago and got back into vintage gear.
Now, I've picked up a few hundred more, as I find them, thrift stores, yard sales.

It's a blast "discovering" things and finding things I had heard but didn't know.
 
Classic Rock from the 70's and 80's is about 90% of my collection. The other 10% covers all other genres. Most of it was purchased during the late 70's and the 80's. I am at about 3,000 titles (half vinyl, half CD)

Currently, I am filling in the gaps by artist by acquiring their entire catalog on CD and my favorite albums on vinyl (that I don't already have) mostly by purchasing new remastered 180gram albums as they are issued.
 
I am only culling and upgrading at this point with Classic Rock. Otherwise I am only looking for rare/obscure titles, mostly folk psych and Jazz, rock music doesn't interest me these days very much, of course there are exceptions, there is alot of good hard rock/stoner/doom/psych type stuff on small indei lables that is very good. All That Is Heavy is a good place to find that type stuff, they are a good online source for that stuff.
 
I've been working on upgrading titles to all OP's and at least Near Mint if not sealed, artist by artist.
 
Classic rock is what I hunt for. Got about ~200 haven't counted lately. Still looking for a lot of the standards. For the life of me I cannot find a copy of DSOTM anywhere local for a reasonable price. For one of the most popular albums of all time, one would think I could. :no: Everytime I try the 'bay I get sniped.

As for odd balls, I came across one at GW the other day I was happy to find. Master's Apprentice - A toast to Panama Red http://i.imgur.com/kYk0Fxf.jpeg I would imbed, but its a huge pic. I bought it simply for the cool album art as I had never heard of them before. After a trip to discogs and popsike, I think I made a good investment for a buck :)

I also found a lot more obscure to me 70s rock same trip: Savoy Brown, Ssssh, Maria Muldaur, Cottonwood, Black Oak Arkansas, Kapt Kopter and the Fabulous Twirly Bird, Focus, Wishbone Ash. Along with some typical Stones, Clapton, Santana, Derek and the Dominos..and others. Best part was a buck a piece! It was a good day to stop at GW.

Most of my classic rock was bought when it was issued. I buy when I find it, but I'm not looking for anything specific.

CR in good shape for reasonable prices is getting harder to find. Most of what I've gotten recently were gifts from friends.

Recently I've picked up some excellent copies of "Wish You Were Here", "Crisis, What Crisis?" and even Del Shannon's "Little Town Flirt". I've picked up some 45s from the 50's and 60's, including a VG+ copy of Big Bopper's "Chantilly Lace" on the "D" label.

Masters Apprentices were one of the greatest Aussie groups.
That Panama Red is a very collectable record in Australia if not the world.

My collection would probably be up to around 11 to 12,000 Lp's ,3 to 5,000 45's, 1000 cd's. I've also got over 1000 cassettes which I'm just about to dispose of because they basically mirror what I have on records.

Mostly rock and psyche but I do have a section of about 300 jazz which I will probably sell off and keep a few that I really like.

I recently set my 34 year old daughter up with a stereo system, with turntable and have already given her about 400 Lp's so I now have her to off load some of my collection.
If she's willing to take them of course:scratch2:
 
Here's something I never could apprehend?
In 55+ odd years I have had 1000's & 1000's of LP's but then say about 20 yrs ago I started to downsize that amount recording 50% or so to R2R and yes the ones I made still sound good as well as the few LP's I have left somewhere in the neighborhood of 100+ or so!Now what I can't comprehend is having so many but more like finding the time to play LP's or whatever?I'm retired and even having saying that I could never listen to them all even if I lived to 100 so it befuddles me how some of you other could manage it.I'm thinking you can't just like I'm realizing now that I couldn't do it!What's the point if you have so many you will never,did I say never find the time just like I can't!There's much too many activities what with Family & Friends and yes they do come over for a weekly Music Night but still it is I find damn near impossible to do it but hey I continue to try to do it.Well enough rambling on I have to get back to listening,carry on:)

When my wife was working on her doctorate, I stopped by her desk one evening while she was doing homework for one of her statistics class. I asked her how it was coming and she replied: "I think statistics will really come in handy. For instance, I've done a statistical analysis and using it and plain old math, I've found it's statistically impossible for you to listen to all your records before you die!"
 
I've been collecting mostly Classic Rock since I got back into vinyl about 9 months ago. I've started out with about 7 LP's that I had keep since the 70's. I now I'm at around 500 LP's. I got a lot of the major groups. But after seeing some of the members collections on here. I realize I still have a long way to go. I really enjoy the hunt. Yard sales, flea markets, and used records stores. Are usually where I find most stuff. I usually don't get in a hurry to acquire a certain LP. That I haven't found yet. Because usually sooner or later. They pop up and I snag them. I'm really having a lot of fun. Filling my LP collection, with what's available out there for cheap.
