Your first Jazz Record?

Can you remember? Not too hard for me as I only have about 5 first one about a year ago and my first Classic Records 200gram... I'm talking about Kind of Blue, so what a great start. I now have an original as well. What can ya say about this album that hasn't already been said? Nobody can dislike it, cause it just has that 'x' factor that makes you love it  A friend of mine bought it on CD based solely on what I had read about this album to him, and had never done that before and thinks it is amazing. What was it that made you want to buy your first Jazz album? do you still have it? and play it.

ahhhhhh Jazz.

First Jazz album: Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays; As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls. Still have it, bought it on CD as well. Beautiful.

Joe Farrell's "Moon Germs". CTI recordings seem to be beautifully mastered, IMO and M.G. is still in my music library.

Mose Allison - Retrospective
Bought it on a whim in 78, still one of my favorite records of all time.
I had read about Mose somewhere, sounded interesting.

My first jazz records were actually tapes. My Favorite Things and Giant Steps by John Coltrane and Nefertiti by Miles Davis.

Joe Zawinal or Weather Report's I Sing the Body Electric. I think? Or maybe not. What the hell it was 40 years ago!

Stephane Grappelli Afternoon In Paris

Bought the LP way back in high school, still have it.

Grover Washington Jr. "Winelight". What made me want it?

Hearing it on this system:
Technics SL-7 turntable
Ortofon TM-14 cart
Kenwood KR-9050 receiver
Phase Linear 'cantilever series' 'purespeakers'

Still own the record, still enjoy it, consequently... contemporary jazz is my favorite style of music and makes up the majority of my music library.:smoke:

The Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz, in the first edition on 6 LPs. My parents bought it for me as a gift when I was in junior high, but it was a gift I requested. Side 10 (Monk, Davis, Rollins, MJQ and Mingus) is a long-time favorite

All of my first Jazz experiences were actually Fusion. I am guessing the first one I got was Mahavishnu Orchestra ~ The Inner Mounting Flame, but I really didn't get it. Then it was Chick Corea ~ Return To Forever or maybe Jean-Luc Ponty or Eberhard Weber ~ Colors of Chloe.

Corea, Luc-Ponty and the Weber were all music that a friend of mine's uncle turned us on to. He turned us onto some other things as well that seemed to make the music sound better and make more sense.

I know I still have the Mahavishnu and Chick Corea, but like a lot of the albums I had in the early 70s, they suffered through much abuse, dirty playings, really crappy TT's, swapped with friends all the time, etc, etc.

The earliest "jazz" record I remember buying anyway was Jean-luc Ponty ~ Imaginary Voyage. Purchased at the now long gone, Positively 4th Street in Minneapolis. Maybe 1976-77
