I like Dave Brubeck. I've seen him perform twice now and consider myself fortunate to do so. He's 89 now. The Time Further Out has some issues. A little noisy on the second side. Not bad though. I have not to listened to Jazz Impressions Of The USA yet but will do so within the hour.

I'm not really sure why I skipped it. I would certainly listen to it. I guess I figured I did not have quite enough money for everything I would have wanted (old Aerosmith, Steve Miller Band, etc). Had they been a dollar each, I probably would have grabbed more. I get the sense not many people look through them, so I'll be sure to head back sometime next week.
Most recent: Pink Floyd..."Obscured By Clouds" An eBay purchase...well worth the 6.99 BIN...appears to be an original Harvest & plays like a dream. Also off the 'bay: Sade..."Stronger Than Pride". $5.99 BIN & NM...had it spinning along with a fresh Beefeater martini when my wife got home from work last night 
. She still doesn't know I have her new CD on pre-order...gonna be a sprize for her.
Have to go to Minneapolis later today & pick up my nephew at the airport...got a feeling a side trip to Shuga may be in order.

I'm going to invest my 2,999th post in...what else...vinyl! Yeah...no way I'll go through Minneapolis without a stop at Shuga Records. Yesterday's finds:

Steely Dan..."Aja" Picked it up for my buddy...looks to be an early ABC pressing & in nice condition complete w/original lyric sleeve. Clean & spin tonight.
Joni Mitchell..."Hejira" I think my Joni vinyl collection is close to complete. Clip-corner jacket...nice condition.
"The Maxell Jazz Sampler..Vol 1"...I have Volume 2 & love it...glad to find this & NM.
"Dave Grusin & The NY/LA Dream Band"...Can't wait to spin this...includes Steve Gadd, Lee Ritenour & others. NM.

Manhattan Transfer..."The Best Of The Manhattan Transfer" There were two of these, same price. I picked the mintier of the two.
Andeas Vollenweider..."Behind The Gardens-Behind The Wall-Beneath The Tree" I have a couple others of his & they sound magnificent. Green-label CBS in a plastic-lined sleeve...appears mint in every way.
The .25 cent bin:
Karla Bonoff...S/T A little on the dirty side but nothing that won't clean up.
Judy Collins..."Wildflowers" Butterscotch-label Elektra w/original inner sleeve. Unless there's some flaw that escapes my eye this should clean to NM status. Sweet!
Manhattan Transfer..."Coming Out" I'm thinking my MT collection is near-complete. Yellow-label Atlantic that should clean nicely.
And...from the free bins:
A number of nicer Christmas albums for Christmas '10...Ormandy w/Philly Orch, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, etc. The free surprise was The Swingle Singers "Bachannalia" Actually a 2-record set putting "Bach's Greatest Hits" & "Going Baroque" into one package. Double Grammy winner from 1963...this should be interesting to say the least. Shuga's free policy is 5 per customer per day...they let me take about 8 knowing it'd be a while before I make it back.

Well, did a bit of cleanin' & spinnin' last night. So far:
"Aja" My buddy's gonna be seriously stoked when I hand him this. Plays nearly perfectly. I even thought for a moment about keeping it & giving him my copy...but that's a promo sent to me when it came out. No...that stays. He'll be happy.
If you run across the Dave Grusin & the NY/LA Dream Band...pick it up! This copy appears unplayed...fabulous recording & pressing...and it's LIVE! Perusing the liner notes I see that it was recorded at the Budokan. Outstanding record.
The Maxell Jazz sampler Vol 1 also appears unplayed...verrrrrry nice.
I remember seeing the Swingle Singers on Jack Paar or something when I was a kid...but paid no attention at the time. That "Bacchanalia" LP I picked up FREE is amazing...all Bach jazzily done in (hope I'm correct w/this term) vocalese. Wordless & quite enthralling. And, even though there were no inner sleeves, both discs were in tip-top condition. Phillips stereo, to boot.
Cleaned but didn't get a chance to spin the Joni...it, and the others, will get the treatment tonight.

The Exploding Hearts - Shattered
The New Salem Witch Hunters - Hot Sauce and Happenings. This isn't a very good pressing, but it's pretty hard to find. The thump that comes around every 33 1/3 spins is pretty inaudible during the music, and may actually make things better. Some garage rock just doesn't require a lot of fidelity to make it fun.
