I talked to my mom on Sunday and was shocked when she told me that the forecast for Monday in Seattle was 110°f!!! Not something that I ever expected to see happening in the PNW. That is one thing in Az where it is so dry, but with the level of humidity there in BC/WA that must feel insanely hot.

I'm kinda fortunate that the area I live in is pretty much the only desert area in Canada so it's a dry heat but it's still frickin' hot. About 20 years ago I was out in the driveway doing body work on my 55 Chevy project. I'm sanding away on a quarter panel with my long board and started to wonder why I was sweating so much. Took a look at the thermometer I had hanging in the shade and it read 117F, so I said to myself screw this it's time for some cold beers and no more body work commenced on the hot summer day.

... ... I'm hoping one day soon I can sit outside and listen to them again but as of late it's been scorching hot here (yesterday 112F by 1 PM) so all my listening has been in my much cooler shop main system.

We just got through that heat bubble in Portland...Monday 115. Things have gotten closer to normal. Looks like you have one more extreme day ahead and you're gonna be hotter than Dallas, Texas EVER was. Twilight Zone stuff. Take care.

So I’m about to roll out my bucket list pool system this weekend. Right now we currently use powered rock speakers via Bluetooth but they’re small. They sound OK but not up to the standards of this forum (or myself).

So what I put together is the following: Source needs to be convenient so it’ll be a Bluetooth Chi-fi tube preamp away so I can stream HD from our phones This pre into a 250 WPC Altec 9440A pro amp I’ve had around for years. This amp will drive (wait for it…) a pair of recently acquired Cerwin Vega D9s. I bought these D9s specifically for this application last weekend although I had no idea they were as big as they are! I had D7s 30 years ago I got the two sizes confused. LOL

As glorious as I anticipate this will sound, I’m concerned about the elements on the speakers. I haven’t figured out how to protect them from the sun and morning dew here in the Carolinas.. I plan to hand truck them into the garage when I’m not using them. I thought about placing the speakers under small canopies on my travertine pool decking. The amp and preamp will be on a shaded roller cart. I’m already sure I’ve crossed into the WAF danger zone.

i’m looking forward to get this up and running, at least for this holiday weekend. I’m afraid it may be overkill and too much work to keep it safe. But I’ll be sure to take some pictures this weekend so I can submit for outdoor system of the year!

Update: I am a little underwhelmed by these D9s. They sound boomy and lack high end detail. But they do play loud!

update 2. Come to find both tweeters are dead. Ordered 2 replacements from SimplySpeakers so I’ll hold off on judgement until I get these installed. They can only sound better…

In addition to multiple systems in the house of course must have one in the backyard. Had an electrician install conduit under the paving stones so I could run speaker wire over to the Gazebo.

I use one JBL Charge 3 and an old Android phone loaded with most of my music and some apps programmed in. I can get the 3 FM stations I care to bother with, Amazon Music Unlimited and a few other apps.

Some water resistant outdoor speakers are hanging under the roof eave for my yard and hooked to a Pioneer SX636 in the garage as secondary speakers. A Sony 300 CD carousel is connected to the receiver with about 250 CDs.

I have Polk Atrium 6's on the far corners of the deck (pointing back at the house (neighbor-friendly volume wise)) and a TIC 8" passive sub in-ground under the deck. The Polk Atrium 6's are mil-spec rated for weather and mine have been through rain/sleet/snow(literally buried under snow for a month straight) year-round with no overhead protection and they still sound and look like new. The Polks and sub are driven by a Nobsound 2.1 amp mounted inside a weatherproof box that has a Chromecast Audio connected and built-in Bluetooth. The tuning controls on the amp make it easy to dial in the main/sub integration.

I am really thrilled with the sound of the system (a sub makes a world of difference outdoors).

Reviving and old thread, but this seemed like the best place. About a year ago I bought an entire Fisher stereo system for $20. I installed it in our shed that serves as a bar/art studio off our patio. I ditched the Fisher speakers and hooked up some old Bose 201's that I had in the garage. The system currently consist of the Fisher CA-880 Amp, FM-660 Receiver and MT-6420 Turntable, a Marantz PMD331 CD player, a pair of Bose 201 speakers, a pair of Klipsch RB25 speakers and a Pioneer SW-8MK2 subwoofer. Every 8'x12' shed needs 4 speakers and subwoofer. We live in Southern California, so the climate is fairly stable. For whatever reason, the sound quality is surprisingly good. We had a banger New Years party spinning vinyl until 1:30 AM.
