Vinyl, as i grow older i can tolerate the defects of cd less and less, I hear that technology is getting us closer to them reproducing digital better then today but till that time vinyl rules in this house.

two suggestions for improving your digital playaback:
1-an outboard dac. while i really like my modded art di/o, you may wanna also investigate non-os dacs, like the scott nixon tube dac, audio mirror, & ack! while i, like you, believe vinyl rules, w/my di/o, i actually *enjoy* digital playback, now... ;)

2-get, at the wery least, a tube preamp, if not tubed amplification. (i know - it seems yure a died-in-the-wool vintage sansui guy...) the advantage of this change will be realized with *all* your sources, not yust cd. :)

Hey Doug, I have seen this unit and while i am interested in Sansui gear I think Im gonna wait for the next one to come up, the fellow says its been painted, why i ask??? in terms of your other suggestion it is one that i am slowly learning about, if you have any more thoughts i would love to hear them...... very very happy with the Sansui CA 3000, have had the Audio Research sp9 and 11, and nether did much for me, the Sansui is awesome, just need to work on my cd source, hence the interest in your suggestion of a tube dac..........

Neat to hear how many of us listen to FM! I thought I was the only one. I listen to KUVO, a Jazz station here in Denver a lot. It also is "HD FM" and I too laugh, but they really go out of their way to make it sound good. Lots of it still comes off vinyl.

Having lots of fun with my old Cassettes since I found some good decks though.

Take care,

Ed

rick, that particular iteration is definitely rough. but, it's gettin bids - i can imagine how much a *nice* one will go for! ;) re: arc preamps, i never tried an sp11; i bought a used sp9 from a dealer years back, & it *sucked* - i returned it. even my cheap s/s adcom gfp-1a was better. so, i suggest trying something else w/tubes! personally, re: preamps, i am partial to melos.

re: dacs, it's not yust the tube dac ya should try. it's yust that ys should try a *good* dac. scott nixon also makes s/s dacs. from those that have compared, the audio mirror, scott nixon, and the ack! have a similar flavor, due to their non-oversampling topology - only the s/n is tubed. the modded art di/o is an oversampling dac. some folk prefer one type over the other - it's a taste thing. either way, i think it will provide a huge improvement, if you haven't tried a good dac - these are yust the good reasonably-priced ones! :) the non-os dacs seem to be a bit smoother, but at the expense of dynamics & extension. we're talking tiny differences here - i could be happy w/either one. for my tastes - even tho i am an analog guy, i still prefer the modded di/o over the audio mirror non-os dac that audio-mirror's owner vlad bezelkov was nice enuff to send me for a trial run...

I think 85% of my listening is CD, I’ve done the MP3 but didn’t care for it.
No room in the rack/entertainment center for a turn table but I do miss the old “hiss” from vinyl.
Because we live 100+ miles from the nearest city our radio reception is poor at best and we rely on our satellite dish and their music channels which isn’t all that bad depending on the weather….
I do get the occasional “flash back” when I listen to the oldies stations.

I play vinyl at the house about 85% of the time, because my records have the music I grew up with, and I have managed to acquire a fair number of jazz and classical LPs. Plus, people who don't know better give you LPs all the time. I love the sound of a really good, clean record. CDs are fine, but they have no soul. The best thing for the car, though.

It's pretty much a toss up between vinyl and CD.
I'll listen to a CD simply because I don't have it on vinyl.
But in the end, it's the music! :music:

Hail,
Compact Disc without question. Probably the main reason is that presently, CD has been so much lost and/or scarce music available. I have obtained so much great music on CD that I never would have found on any other medium. I love FM too, but GEE, it is real tough even with a sensitive tuner to find a diverse range of music.

I prefer MP3, but I prefer it because of convenience. FM sucks ass, and CD's.... I can't seem to keep track of them.

I was torn between vinyl and CD. MP3's suck as do all lossy compression schemes. I like LP's better but it's easier to purchase CD's :smoke:

I play home made CD's. Then I have my album collection on DCC. Saving my albums and DCC sounds very good. But on party nites when I have alot of request, I also have a PC hooked the stereo with 100 gigs of music on an external. I'm guessing around 30,000 songs

I voted for tape but please understand that I am referring to RtoR tape, not cassettes. Next in line is vinyl, then FM.
