Guess I’m lucky, I can still hear way out from 12kHz, lack of treble is no problem here. I set my tone controls flat to 12 o’clock 15 years ago when I hooked up the amp, it hasn’t changed since.
The question becomes, is what you hear as flat today the same as it was when you were younger. Since it can't be (missing frequencies about 10-12k), your perception of flat must have changed.
I think this explains why I like one set of my speakers more than others. They are the ESS Eclipse with the Hail amt tweeter. Is the tweeter more accurate (I doubt it) versus more "bright" (which my reduced hearing remembers as "good")?
