Zenith 4 channel receiver help

I have a zenith console model F941p.
It have this decoder mode switch with matrix I , Discrete, and Matrix II
I tried looking for a owner's manual with no luck
Just wondering what it function is
I have a hunch but not 100 percent sure

Most likely plays SQ 4 channel records and QS 4 channel records. Discrete here would be for tapes.

matrix 1 is most likely regular matrix , also called QS , matrix 2 would be phase matrix , otherwise know as SQ.
most of the quad's put the regular matrix first and the phase matrix second , at the time it was expected that QS
would be the more popular format , didn't work out that way thou , there were way more SQ encoded records pressed
than there were QS , and even less quadradisc (CD4) records made.

Now I just need to find some 4 channel tapes and record to test it all out
didn't really buy it cause it was four channel , bought cause it was a zenith console , its beautiful

I remember those on the showroom floor at Montgomery Ward where my Dad worked. They were beautiful pieces of furniture, but their sound never lived up to their looks.

Discrete here would be for tapes.

It’s very probable “DISCRETE” here is for “CD-4” discrete quadra.

There's no CD-4 decoder in this counsel , it would be labeled where it says descrete on front of the receiver , have got more than a couple receivers with CD-4 , descrete labeled on front but no decoder inside , the decoder was a seperate purchase along with the cartridge for the turntable. Mabey the 8 track is a 4 channel machine rather than a stereo 2 channel ?

No CD-4 on a Zenith. Matrix formats only.
