Hello all, long time lurker first time poster.

I have a 1975 Zenith Allegro Quad that i'm attempting to get some External Speakers on.

(Chassis 15WFR51)

Setup: Zenith Record Console EXT Speaker RCA out's -> 100ft RCA -> Aiyima A08 Pro Amp -> Bose 301 Series 2.

Issue: When the EXT RCA (L) channel is plugged into the Aiyima A08 amp, the volume is about 10% and very tinny. HOWEVER, when i plug the EXT RCA (R) Channel into the record console, then PRESS the hot pin of the RCA (R) to the outer ground sleeve of the RCA (L) plugged into the Aiyima amp the sound gets near perfect while that connection is made. If i plug the RCA (R) channel into the Aiyima AMP the RCA (L) goes back to being 10% again. The Right Channel operates perfectly on its own with no concerns. The Record Console itself has no issue between L+R Internal speakers so i have isolated this to the EXT RCA Ports.

Troubleshooting: I have verified both Channels of the Aiyima AMP, Verified both Strands of the RCA (Both done using the (Right EXT Channel) and had no issues.

Additional Info. I also attempted to directly ground the EXT RCA (L) Port on the console to a common grounding solder point and that did not change the issue. I also tested the 1/4'' Headphone out via a 1/4'' to RCA dual adapter and had No issues at all. For refrence the 1/4'' Headphone port is wired FIRST then goes to an internal switch terminal before a single wire is soldered to the EXT RCA (L) port.


Anybody have any ideas on what i could try next?

So you're connecting the Zenith's external speaker connection to another amp? I don't know your Zenith but I don't believe that's how this connection works. What happens when you connect from the Zenith to external speakers instead of connecting to another amp?

I dont have any RCA +powered speakers right now. I could potentially find some for the name of science. But theoretically the sound should just output via RCA and a secondary AMP would just take that wave and reshape it then send it out with power to my Bose.
 
You shouldn't need powered speakers as the Zenith should supply the power the speaker needs. You'll just need to cut off one end of a RCA cord, split the wires and strip each wire so you can attach them to speakers.

Fair point, Will need to find some 16ohm speakers, as my 301's are 8ohm.

That line of troubleshooting is interesting as im curious to see how it reacts, however im not sure it will serve me long term success as i will still need to know why the left channel is reacting the way it is when in the current workflow setup.
 
You don't need 16 ohm speakers for testing purposes so go ahead and use the 301's. They won't get hurt, you're just listening for music to play normally thru them.

Back with an update, RCA cable sacrificed, and the issue persists identically. Thus removing the 100' RCA run, and AMP from the equation. Still isolated to the EXT RCA (L) Channel. i'm wondering if it could be a grounding issue? or if anybody else knows what i could be dealing with.

100 foot RCA run too much, (that's a Balanced line job). Also, remember, the RCA speaker out on this console is speaker level. Not line level.

I also had concerns about the 100' RCA, however i have found this issue to persist with a 6'ft RCA as well. Going to try to get a video for you all today to show the exact response i'm getting from the Left Channel.
 
Was unable to get a video where my iPhone would not auto-adjust volume and gain settings. Frustrating. Either way, would you all have advise on moving the amp's outputs to another room in the house ~75' away?
