Guess I'll get started on my next econowave project. A good friend of mine gave me a couple of old EV Aristocrat cabinets that I will be using for the project base. The cabs even came with a decent birds eye maple veneer on them! I have never used a corner placemnt style cabinet before so I guess this is a new one for me as well.

The best match I can find for the horn and Selenium 220 driver is a Monocor Poly 12" woofer. I could not find much out about it but in frequency sweep testing it did seem to be still be strong at the 2.5K xover region. The low end is 25hz, with a QY of .348, 91.5 spl, was of 6.436 cu ft. Short of buying anything new this was my best matching shelf stock anyway!

Anyway here I go into another econowave design. My last one worked out so well I felt compelled to try yet another.

Tubino, those look very cool. I have been playing with S-C speakers for years. Love the red.

DC, those are nice cabs and should sound great without corners. I seem to remember that one of the first ewaves were built with the same EV cabs. Might be worth looking for that guys experince. Cheers.

I stand corrected - the diaphragms are identical but I guess the phase plug and other geometry differences result in different responses.

I looked around the Portugeuse part of the site - it's different than the English portion in that all the specs and response curves for all the drivers are available in pdf format. (The lower 2nd and 3rd harmonic distortion of the 2500 vs the 220 is evident from what they provide.)

EV Aristocrat is sort of a horn loaded cab, though of eccentric geometry and unpredictable result. They are not without their fans, however.

I made some houses for the E-Waves today. Maybe this is what they would look like if mass produced as an add on for existing woofers. Just kidding, seriously though maybe you should get a patent on them Zilch. The plexi on the back is so you can see them work. Ha Ha

I'm going to put the Selenium D220Ti and Econowave crossover in Seeburg DDS 1 muffle boxes using the two 15 inch Utahs in parallel. Will see how that works out.

I'm trying for the 'inexpensive sure thing' (TM) here. My wife is in charge of the finances so it is beg/borrow/steal territory.

I guess at the price P.X. is asking, it might be low-risk. What's the general consensus on Pioneer (non-TAD) driver quality? Decent or crap-shoot?

I dunno about the Pioneer stuff but if you're looking for pretty great sound on the cheap, take a look at converting a vintage speaker like the Large Advent project that I did. I thought I knew Advents pretty well, but the waveguide conversion took them to a whole different level. Advents are cheap, common and easy to work on. The walnut ones even have reasonable WAF.

Yeah...I've been trolling the Seattle CL to see if I can find Advents (or Dynaco A-25s) at a decent price. No luck yet.

Question. I have two woofers wired in series so I assume they are 8 ohm and were wired that way to match a 16 ohm horn driver. Now, if I parallel them I will have a 4 ohm load I assume ? Ordered the parts today for 8 ohm, but I don't see any way I can get there. Any advantage to going 16 in series or 4 in parallel ? Or, am I just mixed up.:scratch2:
