Hey Z, is that charged crossover for the high or low eff woofs? What does that type crossover do better than the normal E'wave design? Cheers.

That's the low efficiency version. For high efficiency version, change compensation caps to 3.0 uf each instead of the 1.0 uf. Change resistors accordingly as well. Zilch will have to explain how this thing works.

I finished the basic cab construction for my second speaker today and was finally able to listen to two together. The V2 has the 2 ports and the driver raised up 1" vs the original design. It is also made of birch ply sides, so it's ready for a stain and finish. The front will get a patched work rosewood veneer, but since I have raw, unbacked flitches and will be faced with a butt joint, I'm going to have to work on my skills a bit on some scraps before I commit to the motorboard. but let's just say the initial scrap test was stunning!!

I didn't do a lot of listening, but I'm liking what I hear. At first the older version was louder and I thought it might be do to the patchwork crossover of bundled caps and resistors to get needed values, but discovered that I had the LE14 tapped into the 1400 Hz leg I installed. Moving it back to the 900 Hz leg balanced all out.
More listening today and I'll be rolling the balance in mono, but this looks like it might be the way to go, although I haven't run the XO through any Kegger tweaks yet :D

Very nice. Sort of like a modern Cornwall, except Econowaved. Will be interested to see the veneering/finishing.

OK, what gives. I am finishing my ESS EWGs today, but before I took them down I played with them for a bit. I thought I had them fairly well balanced between the 300B for the horn and Adcom amp for the woof. I was thinking that they were just to bright on top and was getting some strange phasing in the mids. As a test I started turning up the Adcom and the brightness and phasing went away completely. The more I turned up the woof, the duller the top got?????? I know the woof should get louder but why would it have such an effect on the top.....cymbals and the like. What am I missing.

Andy, those are going to look stunning....really!!!! Good job. If I don't like the way my cabs turn out after lightly sanding the veneer and redoing them with the rosewood stain Keg gave me, I will reveneer them using what you have. Beautiful. Cheers.

Guessing that as you bring up the LF amp you are masking the HF; also shifting the balance in the crossover region depending on the polarity. I'm running active-Econowave here, so I think I know what you mean.:scratch2:
 
Yep strange stuff Sky. As I listened, I found a point where the High and Low freqs seems well balanced and the phasing and peircing was gone. I guess that is my point now. After I took out my woofers this morning I realized I had the + and - reversed. Cheers.
 
Hey Z, last night I flipped the wires on the horns and they did not sound near as good. Unbeknownst to me, I was actually making them unflipped. So now I know that the horn needs to be reversed to sound it's best. Cheers.
 
Got the correct foam from Dave, made what looks like a "microphone" top, stuffed
that into the throat, seems to give the same sound performance as the other but
it only attinuates a DB or less compaired to the roughly 4 I was getting before, so
this I believe does work better and gets my L-Pads pretty close to half way. :)

Dave can give the info on the specs of the foam as I don't remember what it was.
 
Horns arrived over the weekend and I have to say they sound absolutely beautiful even with incorrect coils that i used (don't have any 3mh right now.) I much preferred them to the altec 811b/806 horns drivers combo in my Altec Malibu. A big thank to everyone who contribute to this superb econo waveguide design.:thmbsp:

What else Zilch, more econowave on smaller box :D- they will go in L100T cabinets. Hopefully I wont need to change much on the crossovers.
