There was a Boston Audio Society (BAS) Zoom meeting with Wayne Parham of Pi Speakers today.
You have to be a member of BAS or an affiliate society.
Perhaps a reason to join.

Hope it's okay to pop in here with a question that's not about the econowave, but asking you because I assume most of the speaker building experience on AK is in this thread:

I'm about to embark on a project to build a 3 way (using a mix of PA and HiFi drivers).
If you've built your own 3 ways, which projects (or aspects of building a 3 way) could you recommend and why?

I am eyeing a certain project but would greatly appreciate some uncolored opinion based on your experiences.

Finding the cabinet volume using the Thiel Small parameters of your woofer and commonly available and free software like Bassbox pro is easy, so not an issue.

The crossover network will be the biggest challenge to get right unless you really don't care how accurate the sound will be. Don't forget a Zoebel network for the bass driver for impedance shaping. Your amplifier will be glad you did.

Consider building a known great 3 way that is well documented and that you can get parts for. That's what I did as a teenager when I built JBL L300 clones using the identical except for paint color commercial versions for the drivers. Every part was listed in the data sheet along with the crossover network. I changed it a bit so I could biamplify or run normally.

Honestly, the econowave 2 way is pretty amazing. Where a 3 way will likely go a bit higher, an econowave has incredible imaging and an incredibly wide sound stage like the JBL 4430 that inspired it. This began on the Audioheritage forums where Zilch began taking the inexpensive (those days) L200 and mated it with butt cheeks and drivers from the 4430 and a simplified network provided by another JBL 2 way with parameters adjusting component values.

RIP Zilch - you are remembered and missed!

I want to take this opportunity to post a huge thank you to @shrinkboy for keeping the Audiokarma flowing with his gift of Econowave to my good friend Andrew in Texas. Here is a picture of Andrew’s grandma enjoying some tunes on these fantastic speakers.

She says “It sounds like the band is playing here in the room with me!” ❤️
I'm just now seeing this! how nice to know they went to the right home. I hope Andrew and his grandma will enjoy them for years to come

Hello, I'm new here. I'm very excited about planning out my first speaker build. This voyage started with me wanting some Klipsch speakers, then I watched Toids videos on YouTube, later I started reading about building CornScalas and eventually I landed here, cause there wasn't much info on the crossovers for the CS's.
So, I have some ideas I would like to bounce off the experts here.
Looking at all the 15" woofers on parts Express I came across these Celestion PULSE XL 15.25 they have a very flat frequency response up to 1khz or 1.2khz and a high sensitivity of 97db/1w. Also with an attractive price. https://www.parts-express.com/Celes...Professional-Woofer-8-Ohm-294-2508?quantity=1

Combined with the JBL d220ti and a Denovo Seos 15 wave guide, I really like how it looks and they say nice things about it. The cabinets would be pretty big at almost 10ft^3, but I'm ok with that.

My questions are:
If anyone have experience with these woofers, is there something I'm missing, any reason why they wouldn't be a good fit for my stereo in my living room?
Would Zilch's cross over be a good fit with these horns?
Any other thoughts, please?

I looked at the Celestion woofer spec sheet. Looks like a pretty good woofer but a 15" might be hard to mate with the horn depending on the dispersion characteristics of each. The woofer peak above 1kHz could be flattened by using a series inductor of the right value to cause a rolloff starting at 1k. That could extend the response to about 2k and make the crossover work better through the overlap region. Beyond that I couldn't say much that would be useful without knowing more about the waveguide and drivers. Hopefully someone with direct experience can see this and give you some advice.

You could enter the TS parameters from the woofer spec sheet and use some software like WinISD to simulate the box and get and idea of what size, type and tuning might work best with it. For a 15" woofer you might need a pretty large box.

I ran a quick sim in WinISD and it shows a pretty decent and flat response down to the mid 20Hz region but it takes a 6 cuft box to do it.
Have fun with the project.

Here is the description of the wave guide from the website.
The Denovo Audio SEOS-15™ waveguide is a Super Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal design. The SEOS waveguide project was a DIY community effort on the AVS forum that spanned many years with design input from audio professionals and the general public from all around the world. The goal was to produce a waveguide that reduced distortion, improved imaging and soundstage, and created a more natural and immersive listening experience without the typical "horn honk" or harsh sounds from other waveguides.

Helpful Note: Recommended for woofer sizes from 12" - 18". Minimum recommended crossover for a waveguide of this size would be about 950hz for home use but can be pushed a bit lower for some designs. The finish is high gloss, but these can be painted fairly easy with just about any type of spray paint. The front edges taper down nicely and can surface mounted on your cabinet if you choose not to recess the waveguide. We recommend #8 pan head screws for mounting and to be sure to tighten them down so the screws pull into the recessed holes on the front of the waveguide.

From what I understood the SEOS-15 was NLA, anyone know who's behind this or is it
the same people with a new website? Good that they're back.
Edit: I emailed them and at least the person who answered said that they were the same people.

Anyone know when/if the Anarchy 7" 4 ohm is coming back? I'm guessing no.

@mthure The horn/WG you show is bolt on, so you'd have to run an adapter to go to the D220ti screw-on flange. It looks like Dayton still has a clone of the original JBL used in this project, screw-on:
I haven't paid attention to this for a while so I don't know how accurate that clone is. Others on here will know.
Another to consider, Pi Speakers (Wayne Parham) has one, too, but it's bolt-on:
I never used the Celestion woofer. I did put together an EWave using one of the Dayton 15s a very long time ago, I believe that woofer is listed in the summary post at the top of the thread.

"That must have been some time ago. Or did you mean someone else?"
Prolly referring to my post above, that I directed at you. ;)

Ah. No worry. Good luck with your project. It was a long time ago that I built Econowave's and I'm out of touch with the current products that are available.
