Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

The 50W 8 ohm Lpad is fine and seems to be better built than the 100W.

I don't know that Pioneer speaker but I'd guess that the low efficiency version would
be correct. Have you found anyone who's done that speaker and measured them?
If not try that crossover and test it with the horn wired with both polarities while
listening on the tweeter axis for a smoother, more realistic sound. Clapping in live
recordings is broadband and is probably a good test.
Or do you have test equipment?

I see that they are rated at 94 dB which would be high but they all lie so who knows,
you might want to use the high efficiency version:

Yes, Links are pretty dead. I do not have test equipment. I was going to mount the CD and wave guide on top the box. The box is a little too small for the wave guide. I thought the Standard Crossover with L-Pad would work.
I can put the Crossover together no problem. I'm good with a solder iron and schematic. Just need the correct BOM.

Nice find Pete, thanks for sharing. Looking around on that site I can see even more Econowave goodness!

Woofer looks like an SB Acoustic unit?

I think the only concern I'd have is the dual woofers in a two way. For me I'd be going with a 2.5 way crossover.

Outta touch on compression driver market. Is there any sort of consensus on a non-Ti entry level/economical compression driver these years?
There are quite a few that I'm curious about but have not tried them. Upper price limit?

I have a pair of the PRV D230Ti but they are obviously Ti and NLA but it looks like there's a new number for it.
I think that these are the current, good quality, bargain drivers, tested here by MTG:

I'm still working my way through this thread but I had a quick question. I'm interested in building some Econowaves with the GRS 12PT and the "standard" D220Ti/6512 CD/waveguide. Anyone familiar enough with the original Econowaves and the GRS 12PT think it would go reasonable well...

The GRS 12PT looks like it could be a good fit depending on how low the CD goes. The GRS 12PT starts breaking up a bit at 700hz or so. I built 6 eWaves many years ago and always crossed at 1500hz.

Welcome, given @djnagle observation of the 700 hz break up on the GRS driver, I would encourage you to stick with the original standard Econowave recipe with the Dayton DC 300 driver. That is unless you already have the GRS drivers. I can’t speak to the GRS driver, only that the Dayton driver in the Standard Econowave configuration is an excellent combination. That I can say with experience and without hesitation. I see that Parts Express has the drivers on back order, with a June 26 availability. And the cost is basically the same.

The 700hz "hole" doesn't seem to have actually offended anyone's ears who have used this modest GRS twelver.

The breakup modes above 1K seem benign enough ( IOW; they haven't gone "chaotic"/// out-of-control /// and started crossing each other in the off-axis responses )

I've added a zobel to JackGiffs >95db driver and done up an XSim prediction.

It looks very usable with the added 2 or three components.

I'll post it later today when I'm back from running some chores.

:)

Thanks for the feedback. I'd like to go with the GRS driver over the Dayton, as I want the additional power handling and excursion. The driver is <95db (93), if that's relevant to your Xsim prediction
