Zip Utility for Windows 8

KeninDC

Hazy Cosmic Jive
I like 7-Zip, but I cannot get it to work on a Windows 8 machine. Not even the one that's supposed to work on Windows 8.

Would you AK geeks be so kind as to suggest another Zip Utility?

Free, w/ GUI, and non-bloated is key.

Thanks,

Ken

WTF is windows 8? :) I'm still running XP at work and WIN7 at home. I used to be a geek, was even MCSE in Win98... Man I've dropped out of the loop.

My question to *you* is where'd you swipe that copy of Windows 8 and how incomplete is it?

Dunno, I'm mostly on Solaris at work, so run Cygwin on my Windoze PC. It has all the 'nix tools, including tar, gzip, etc. There's also GnuWin32.

Good point. The computer in question was purchased just last week. I reckon the cat using it is mistaken about Windows 8. I see that 8 is not out yet. He probably gets an upgrade to 8 when it comes out.

On my Win7 machine (and all others) I use WINRAR. free utility that handles .rar and .zip files well. Can create either as well and is free to use.

Winzip is pretty good, and so is Winrar. In case you need to extract AND burn an .iso file, (like for testing Win8), I'd grab IsoBurner.
