Which Turntable is better?

I am looking at getting a new turntable, which is better:
Denon DP-300F, Music Hall MMF-2.1, or Pro-Ject Debut III

Are there any others out there which are better in this price range. Thanks

Not sure what the prices are, but if a rega planar3 is in your budget they are hard to beat for the money and very upgradable if that's your buzz.

Dennon DP-300, Pro-Ject Debut III, or the Music-Hall 2.1. I'm gonna say the REGA is probobly not in the Budget as these are all $300 +/- tables...

Well mnrider, I've owned all 3 so lets look at it this way:

Pro-Ject and Music-Hall are basialy the same table just different arms and names. However, the Pro-Ject DEBUT III is a cut above the Music-Hall I feel and with the addition of the SpeedBox, you can really get AMAZING performance from the DEBUT III. AWESOME performance!

The Denon DP-300 is a whole different beast from the Pro-Ject and Music-Hall. Priamaraly made of plastic but in all fairness, it does have a good tonearm on it. The Denon does sound quite good when fitted with an AT440MLa and if you want a fully auto deck, the Denon is the way to go!

Now...If you are more interested in performance and expandability, I would go for the Pro-Ject DEBUT III and maybe down the road, add the SpeedBox. If you want convienience and ease of use, go with the Dennon. With any of these tables, you really need to upgrade the cratridge. For the Denon, I recomend the AT440MLa, for the Pro-Ject, the LP Gear AT95SA.

So, Full AUTO, get the Denon. Performance, get the Pro-Ject.

Hope this helps,

I think im going to go with the pro-ject. I was already leaning towards it, and just needed someone elses input. Thanks Joey1127

I don't know about the turntables you mention, other than by hearsay. However, the attached pic shows a turntable with a very heavy platter, and about the highest torque you'll find. Not much flutter, but a lot of WOW! :D

Now that's a turntable I can relate to! :thmbsp:

Just out of curiosity: what are the cons w/ the Ortofon OM 5E that comes with it?

Well,

The OM 5E is one of those carts that they chuck in as an incentive to buy the table and get you started. It's a clunky bonded Elliptical stylus, not really something taht I would want to listen to very long. The only table I know of that comes with a cart that I would not need to upgrade would be the Marantz TT-15 which is fitted with a Clearaudio Ebony Wood.

No pun intended to those that like Ortofon or the OM 5E. It just does not allow you to see what Analog as well as that particular Table and Arm combo can really do.

Thanks for the tip, Joey. I'm about to get this same table (but with the phono pre included) and was wondering about a replacement cartrige. I'll give 5E some spins and evaluate the results.

I have a couple of Pro-Ject tables the RM-5 with a now out of production Ortofon X3-MC cart and the Speed Box MKII and a 1.2 (earlier and slightly higher higher end version of the Debut with a Grado RED (yes I get the Hum but never hear it during a record)

And I really like the Pro-Jects high quality great styling.

As to a suggested Cartridge try some thing like an Ortofon Super OM-10 then when you want to up grade you only have to buy the better stylus and you can turn it into a OM-20 OM-30 or OM-40 without ever having to change the alignment!
