look what I saw at the local SA:

Today, apparently, they tested it and wanted 200 dollars! :/
I obviously demurred, especially since it needs work. God knows who comes up with prices at SA. However, yesterday, I did pick up a B&W LCR6 S2 for 20 bucks :banana: And before, a pair of boston A40s for 14 dollars. So cannot complain too much!

A 1250 for $100 (according to the tag) and you left it? What location?
 
It was a salvation army in Clemson, SC. At that point there was no way to check it out. I went back with speakers to check it. By that time, they had already increased the price to 200. Plus it says it needs work. God knows what. Would it be worth it even then?
 
Probably missing the pre-out/main-in jumpers and needs deoxit on the control knobs. Not a good idea to pass that one up. The carcass is worth that even if it doesn't work at all, I suspect. Not an expert, but I think I'd have been looking hard at my budget to see if there was some way to sneak that in (probably not for me, but anyone could spare that probably should think hard on it). Just sayin'.
 
Damn, now I feel bad for not having picked it up yesterday! I think 200 dollars is more than what my student (PhD stipend) budget would allow.

You can always post in D&S as a heads up for others who might be better heeled and pass along the karma that way.

You might also consider asking why they say 'needs work' and asking them why it was $100 yesterday and $200 today. You never know what kind of response you'll get. I have a leather couch that I got for $35 at a thrift because I asked why it was marked $350 and had been there for several months. They just had never gotten around to marking it down and when they realized how long it had been there, offered me an instant discount. Your smile and your mouth are your friends; use them.
 
If anyone is near Clemson, SC or the Greenville metro area, the Salvation Army at Clemson has a mint looking unit for 200 dollars. It says it needs work, so not sure what is up with that. It powers up fine. I just don't have the money to buy it now. Maybe one of you can. Good luck! It was there today, and tomorrow is a holiday. So you should be able to go there and find it on Monday. I have a pic if someone is interested.
 
Could be something very simple like one of the tape switches or other switches is on and shouldn't be. They may not know how to operate it correctly and may not have even hooked up an antenna to it or if they did they didn't do it properly.

I would have offered $150 for it figuring they probably would take it. Even $200 is a good deal as it looks to be in very good condition.
 
You think I should go there on Monday and buy it, if nothing else as an investment for potential resale? How much can i get for it on the open market?
 
DAMMIT! I'm headed to Clemson early next week, and I looked at that store when I went through in November. Every town I go through I try to find the thrifts if I have a few extra minutes. What do you suppose the chances are it would still be there?

I'll be at either University or the Day's across the street, and I'll make a point to look in one of my trips to the south side of campus (Media Center), but I'm not expecting much. I can box and ship that home on my UPS account with no problem, if I'm really lucky and no one sees it. Yeah, right.
 
I think the store opens at 8 or 9 in the morning. If it was not sold after I left (I went around 3 and the store closes at 5), it would be there. If you have a student ID, it is 20% off for you on Monday. Go get it man!
