The 2014 World Cup starts today.......

I just came out of retirement to anounce it..:D

It should be a colorful, interesting World Cup.....My pick to win it all is Brasil....I do not expect any of the european countries to do well with the high humidity and the heat.....:D
But then, I have been known to be wrong before.....:D

Will they have vuvuzelas?

Definitely not.....The officials even banned a maraca type of shaker(sorry forgot the name) after it was thrown at Players during a game....It was supposed to be Brasil's answer to the vuvuzela.....They also have an oversize Version of a Police whistle but I do not know if it will be allowed in the stadiums

My sentimental favorite is Spain, but I really think, if not Brasil, some other country from the americas, No european country has ever won the World Cup while being Held in the americas.

However strong they are, their present world standing, being the hosts country, etc.. etc... I don't think Brasil will win. They will however make it out of their group.

My preference will have to be, first with Germany, second, Portugal, third, Spain, and fourth, with Argentina.
I know it's a lots of choices, but the World Cup is sometime full of surprises.

In 5 minutes, the opener, Brasil V Croatia
Brasil will have to be at their best against a very young Croatian team trying to prove themselves.

I just hope all that unrest in Brazil is not gonna spoil the Cup.

Suposedly, the brasilian military is out in FULL force; I have read somewhere that for the games there is a police vehicle every 50 feet or so.......There will be protests but nothing to worry about.

Croatia played well, especially in the first half, but Brasil really took over in the second. 3-1 for Brasil, with Brasil striking four time, things happen sometime.

They have a good chance, although rated 15th, they are a very aggressive team, not afraid to take chances. It will be a good game, and it's after 22 minutes of playing time. Spain will have to bring their A game if they want to win.

Spain kicked to the curb. I was cheering for the Dutch! Worked with a Dutchman for a few years and he was a rabid soccer fan and when younger was on their National Team. I didn't expect such an overwhelming win!

I have not forgiven the dutch for their shameful display in the final four years ago. That said, they deserved the win tonight.

I am plumping for argentina, aguero and messi are the two best players in the world in their respective positions and the rest of the 11 is a good mix of age and experience.

I see a european team doing better than expected though, most likely germany or, i know i have to say it but i mean it, england.

Brazil have not had a team worthy of winning the world cup since 1982 and this crop is no different, workmanlike, lacking real flair, nah, not for me.

Too many BAD calls already......Mexico was robbed of two goals and a Penalty early today among others....
The Cup is just getting started, so do not get your hopes too high about Holland getting anywhere; there is still a lot of Fussball to be played.:D

The tournament consists of two parts, the qualification phase in the preceding three years, and what it's called, the World Cup. The last time Canada qualified for the World Cup was for Mexico 1986. Canada in group C, lost its first three games.

Soccer is gaining in popularity in Canada, and we have very good teams at the Junior levels, so maybe in 8 more years we will qualify for the World Cup.
