Brasil 2014

Sad thing. I like the English fans. They are so extremely passionate and they deserve a good national football team.

Michael Schumacher left the hospital and now an extremely long rehabilitation is going to start - Schumi keep on fighting!

Lukas Podolski, a very good friend of Schumi, said that his German team dedicates the match Germany vs. Portugal today to him and he hopes that Schumi may watch the game if possible for him. Michael Schumacher is a football fan and even the sound of the match could help him a bit...

Sadly it's the same old story Chris.. English players just aren't technically, physically, and mentally in the same league as other countries. It's been like this for many years now! The disappointment usually results in a new expensive manager (like the past Italian) until that ends in tears..Then it's back to an old talentless rubbish English manager (on the cheap no doubt). The simple fact is England are crap at any world or euro football event because the actual players lack REAL talent.

and add to that heat and humidity...England looked drained half way through the second half.

The best for a great F1 driver. He had, and still has lots of fans in Montréal. Hopefully his rehabilitation goes well.

This afternoon here at 13:00hrs AST or 18:00hrs CEST , two of my favourites teams, Germany and Portugal will face off, and hopefully both will move to the next round.
Klose, the oldest player at 36, will try to overtake Gerd Muller's strike record for Germany.

Almost end of the first half.
Germany leads 3:0 and Pepe got a red card (which means he will skip the game with US).
Future looks grim for Portugal right now.

Cant argue with that. Part of the problem though is that the premier league has got out of hand in terms of money and foreign imports meaning that talented english players cant break into the top teams. city and chelsea are not well represented as they dont have enough top class english players anymore and when you have mid table sides like liverppol (who massively over acheived last season), man utd and southampton providing a significant number of players for the squad it really puts it in perspective.

So far the result is good. But US just can't keep the ball in the middle and it scares me.
Still might work with Ghana, but might not with Portugal and definitely not with Germany.

This second half has been mostly Ghana. If you control the ball, you eventually score. USA should start attacking if they want to win this one.

US has been far too timid. And the trainer should be fired! What's with all the leg cramps!!???

When Ghana scored I nearly turned it off it was so painful. But I didn't and USA gets a full hearted OMG! USA!!

This nation invented this game. This nation is the most traditional football nation. They aren't really successful for so many years now. This is such a disappointment for millions of fans of English football all over the world.

I think the problem here is twofold. Firstly, once an English player has "made-it", it's very easy for them to rest on their laurels and still get paid. Especially for a World Cup match like this where it doesn't reflect on their home teams score. Younger players have the passion for the game until the money gets in the way. For this reason, you see teams from "developing nations" that will run rings around them.

Secondly, I wonder whether football (and other sports) are still considered a valid part of the curriculum in English schools. When I went to school, I learned rugby, football, hockey (field), track and field events, and some kids even learned canoeing and archery. After leaving school and getting a job working for local government, I used to work around the leisure centres looking after their computers. I remember being in the pub one lunchtime, talking to a mate that worked in Sports Development. He was telling me how so many schools in the borough were cutting back on teaching sports to kids. One of the commentators, can't remember who, might have been the Dutch guy, said something like "this is how we teach our kids, from the age of six".

An elementary part of football are wrong decisions by referees, smaller ones happen in almost every game, but it is really sad that so much severe wrong decisions influence or even decide the result of a game.

A friend of mine used to watch Millwall play. He said that at one match, a linesman made a wrong call, and later on that match, someone threw a brick over the fence and knocked him out.

I must admit, I watched the England game wondering why the goalkeeper kept rolling the ball to the defenders. I've seen goalies kick a ball three quarter the length of the pitch. Surely they could have got some people up in front of Italy's goal and had the goalie kick it up there? When I used to play defense, I used to kick it out as far as I could, whether someone was there to collect it or not.

Lee.
