I picked up a 1963 Nordmende Arabella console with a Dual 1008 record changer today. Radio/tuner works but Turntable does not respond... Troubleshooting advice?

more than likely the turntable is seized up due to old grease you'll need to clean off the old grease and then relube the turntable with white lithium grease and then go from there. I actually have a Dual 1218 turntable that was the same way before I overhauled it and now it works like a charm!

By the way I suggest that you recap the amplifier and tuner sections of the console so that you don't have further issues with it down the road, especially the electrolytics (the large metal cans inside the radio) because if those go it will lead to the power transformers being fried and that will be a big project to replace the power transformer, and expensive as well.

My 63 Isabella had a 1006 DUAL in it. Removed it and dropped in a 1009.

Very cool, I think the Arabella and the Isabella are very alike ...13 tube 40 watts... Did yours come with a tape player or just the interconnect?

What do you mean by it doesen't respond? If it doesn't spin, its probably seized up grease. If it spins but makes no sound, it might be a bad cartridge. Either way it does need a lube job, but it may or may not need a cartridge. Ceramics were not exactly known for being indestructible.
Also, standard mentions regarding old capacitors that should be changed for safety and reliability, and a mention about the German radio mode switches that always need a good cleaning. Both have been beaten to death, so I won't bore you to death repeating it all

No tape deck. There is a interconnect plate on the side of the receiver module.

When I switch it to "phono" , and press start on the tt, nothing happens, no spin, no sound. I also lightly rub my finger on the needle and no sound. I have other units that when I do this I get a scratchy noise. This make me think there is something wrong with the phono stage... I have yet to even pull the back off...
Disconnect the leads from the cartridge to the receiver. Turn on and listen for a hum.

Whatever you use to switch to phono, switch it back and forth or in and out if it's a button, basically work the controls maybe 20 times to clean the contacts a bit, unplugged is best because arcing might set you back. If that works, some Deoxit on the contacts, again unplugged, is a good beginning.
its possible that it jammed in the middle of the cycle with the muting switch engaged. Unplug it as Larry suggests to see if the problem is in the turntable or the receiver. Cleaning the switches in the reciever wouldn't be a bad idea either. those things are fairly well known for being crabby. If you get it out, you'll see why. Its a very involved switching mechanism.
Boy and HOW! I think the German's scared off Rube Goldberg with that switching Mech.

The Dual 1008 is a strange beast of a record changer, But I'd love to see one restored and working. Unlike most older changers, it seems to be able to correctly index the size of a single record placed on the turntable. Like most older Duals, this one probably has the rubber wedges in the automatic spindle that go bad, and will need re-building, but if you don't want to stack records, you can just use it for single play use. Like any changer, it will need to have the old hardened grease cleaned out, it may be stuck in mid-cycle.
