2 ohm stable amp recomendations please

If you are that interested in it why don't you get the Otala paper and read it instead of speculating about it because you are just going around in circles. The paper will most likely discuss the conditions of which the tests are made including the simulated loudspeaker load.

I don't have any problems about the H/K claims whether they are real or imaginary. The simple fact of the matter is that I have used the HK PA2400 with my RS4.5's since I got them and I have had no problems with premature clipping or over current protection muting or any other intrusive limiting. You can tell by their circuit topology that they are no lightweight contender.

These amps can be picked up for a bargain price because people don't know about their capabilities of driving difficult to drive loads. They are a much better proposition than many larger and much more expensive amps and receivers designed to deliver lots of power into 8 ohm loads only and which can literally destroy expensive emit tweeters even at low volumes ;)

So you're telling me to go read a paper that you are speculating has the information in it? And, yes, I'm going around in circles because the same non-answers keep coming up.

Why won't HK just tell me what I asked? Surely they have the information I seek, else, how did they come up with the number?

I just don't understand why the big secret if they're so proud of the number that it goes into the brochure of every amp and receiver they make.

I'm sure it's a fine amp, I've said that at least twice, maybe more. But, again, this spec is published on every one of their amps afaik and I want to know what it means, exactly.

Perhaps interest in H/K's rating practices is better suited to a original thread.

You're probably right. But, I'm not going to start one because many have viewed this one and I still have no hard facts about what the HCC spec really entails.

The spec doesn't make sense. The eight ohm bridged rating should be 2,500W according to the four ohm spec listed further down.

I must say that I have very much enjoyed reading all of your posts and I have learned a great deal. To be honest, I am wondering if I may be happier with a more efficient set of speakers. I love the RS-II's, dont get me wrong, but I am considering other options, too.

whoaru88-I think your missing to point-the op is not about H/K HCC-it's about amps capable of driving Infinity's, know for their difficult to drive characteristics. Thats why I suggested starting a different post, reading your responses to this one, you seem to have a obsession with the HCC spec-why else would you e-mail them twice?
Personally, I don't see a probelm with that-but best started on it's own because, as I mentioned a few times-it's not particulialry helpful here.
Why? Look at rabbit's experience-regardless of what it's amps are, it is more than capable of driving his Infinitity's - BINGO- that's what the op was about!!
You gave some nice choices early on, perhaps your experience with these amps, and their sound would prove to be helpful- instead of this HCC obession.

Take a punt and invest in the paper form the JAES. You never know it might pay off ;) But don't expect to get some answers from the marketing department at H/K because the people you are dealing with probably wouldn't know one end of a diode from the other ;)

Unfortunatly this thread ended up being more of a H/K bashing than sound amp recommendations.
Regardless of one memeber not getting his H/K HCC answers, (what this has to do with the OP is beyond mebest suited for it's own thread) the point of the thread was amps they can drive stable 2 ohm loads. Very few are out there, and perhaps a pa style amp is the answer. There seem to be a number of units, such as in the PE catalog that will fit that bill, and more likely your budget.
You will have to deal with posible fan noise- hopefully they sound decent, but it probaly your best choice, to avoid melting down a traditional audio amp.
Regardless of all the mathmatical stuff, is really how the amps sounds, and how well it drive the speakers that is important-I agree the rest is marketing stuff that the unwary get caught up, and feel a need to prove or justify.
Personally, I could care less about the numbers, I'm not a engineer, but a music lover, and it's the sound that matters.

I'm going to take a hopefully very short excursion from the OP and say that specs and test performance have everything to do with sound quality. Those who say otherwise are relying solely on subjective opinion and are likely conveying the glow of ownership or the thrill of a garage sale find.

I don't think thats the case at all. I have read plenty of reviews, looked at specs, tried many combinations of componets, and in this specific case, H/K's HCC rating has little to do with it's performance, take a look at the traditional specs, and design and you will find it more than capable or driving Infinites-that's the whole point. There are 2 other members here that have had excellent luck with their PA-2400 driving Infinites-that to me says way more than published specs. Have you ever tried any of the aformentioned amps on Infinties? If not yopur wholly relying on specs-not actual real world use. Kind of amounts to back seat driving IMHO. In addition published specs have be know to widly vary between not only manufactors, but componets as well. And that doesn't even take into account conservative, or bold specs.
Personally I take specs for what they are, a starting point. Listening is the most important part, unless you want merly bragging rights.
Saying specs have "everything to do with sound quality" is a bit narrow minded. For example, a amp (or any component-cd players are a great example of this, and of course speakers are a classic case were you can get fooled on specs )can have great specs, but sound lousy in your system.
I can't imagine you can honestly say you have never ran into this. I think we all have. Componet interaction is something I think all have us have experienced. It isn't subjective, it's very real. Why do you think lot's of memebers trade and buy different componets for their systems? Not usually specs. Sometimes cosmetics, but most I would guess is in the attempt for better sound.
