2252B Chassis Cover

Have a 2252B in a WC-22 case and would like to put it in a WC-122 instead. I prefer that style case, and have a Marantz 5000 tape deck in the smaller version of the WC-122 case. So want a matched set.

Problem is the 2252B is nekkkid in the WC-22 case, and I have to find the metal chassis cover to use with the WC-122 case. Not finding it on Epay or elsewhere online and was wondering if anyone here ever had one fabricated?

my 2285B was missing the metal top i used one from a 2238B and it fit perfect i do believe but dont know for sure that all the models that the WC-122 fits use the same chassis. you might be able to find one of those.
WC-122:
2216B, 2216B(L), 2226B, 2226B(L),2238B, 2238B(L), 2252B, 2265B, 2285B

Chris, thanks for your response. It turns out I just snagged a 2238B from the Goodwill auction, that's where the WC-122 is coming from. I was hoping the case would fit my 2252B but was trying to formulate a "PLAN B".

The cover on a 2252 I sold had vents on the side as well as the top, which makes sense with the WC-122. Makes sense with the B as well based on where the heat sink is. Does the cover you have on your 52B have side vents or only on top?

i dont have a 2252b. the 2238b cover i bought is the same as the one pictured in the link i posted above and has no side vents. none of the 2285b or 2252b metal covers ive seen pictured doing a google search have side vents on them either. i do see side vents on the non B models ive looked at though

Yeah, same re photos with no side vents. Sorta strange they designed the WC-122 case with vents on the side, then took the vents outta the metal covers.

the WC-122 does have vents on the sides but dont know why it would unless there is a receiver it fits that im not aware of that has side vents

Only difference I've noticed between the 22xxB covers are where the rubber spacers (that sit on top the transformer and are attached to the chassis covers) are located. My 2238B case won't fit my 2265B/2285B because of said rubber spacer.

Granted, these can be taken off as needed.

i dont recall anything interfering on my 2285B the 38b top went right on as far as i remember. i do have the euro version and it was sold without a metal top and a WC-22 case already installed, so maybe spacers werent used on that version as they would not be needed. next time i switch cases ( have both WC-22 & WC-122) i will look at it closer.

If that rubber spacer had fallen off or been taken off then chances are you'd have never known. But when I went to put my 38B cover on my 65B I would have definitely of needed to remove said spacer to get it to fit.

And who knows...they might not all have been built with them. Marantz seemed to make slight changes as they went along.

No need to worry about it. Without the metal case you will have much better air circulation with the "sideways" heat sink.

Not with the WC-122. It's a three sided case with no bottom. The openings on the side and top of the case have no screen, aren't slotted and would let a ton of dust into the chassis w/o the metal cover. Convinced this case was designed to be used with the cover. https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/116039833

my understanding from the instruction sheet that came with my WC-122 is the the metal cover is left on. the illustration shows the cover on and the installation say remove side screws and doesnt say remove cover. the side screws are what hold the cover on and would not be there if there was no cover as here would just be screws in the frame serving no purpose which wouldnt make sense. it also says attach a couple foam pads under the top which will rest on the cover and would serve no purpose without the cover.

And if you notice, the B models are not included on the list. The 2252B has one heat sink only, on one side only, and is longer front to rear. The WC-122 is built for dual heat sinks and has the appropriate sized, shorter vents. But by all means, use it if you like.

By all means use it if you like and enjoy it. Even though it's right side vent is too short for the 2250B's long single heat sink. The 2252B isn't on the installation list as shown by @Chrisxo55441 because of the different chassis design. The metal cover has slots with no screen so dust isn't going to be stopped much anyways, though does offer some protection from larger objects. I would just put a perforated metal screen on the underside of the top to span the opening which will allow for enhanced air flow and heat venting.

You're right about the heat sinks & the/some Bs having just one. That said, to me it looks more like mis/non-communication at Marantz. Both my old 52 and current 52B have the sink on the rear right side. If you wanted good ventilation, why not have a side vent and a top vent on the metal chassis cover like the WC-122 has, to promote hot air goin' out the top and cooler air comin' in the side? Looks to me like the guys designing the cases got the memo, but the chassis cover dude missed it.

I thought the same thing about the 2252B not being listed, but on closer examination of the document I'm pretty sure it reads, "2220 - 2285, 4230 - 4270". There's a hyphen between 2220 and 2285, which I'd interpret as any model from 2220 to 2285, not just those 2 models. Hyphen between the 42xx models as well. Makes sense from a marketing POV as well. When you look at the WC-123 models they're separated by commas, so it's just for those 4 models.

I thought about the screen on the top and on the sides as well, but all the photos I can find show the WC-122 with the metal chassis cover on.

both the 2285B and 2252B owners manuals specify the WC-122 as the optional wood case to use.
this is my 2285B with metal top and WC-122 installed.

Was looking for my owner's manual and instead found the 25th Anniversary Catalog. They're all shot in WC-122/123 cabinets and it looks like they're wearing their chassis covers.
