2385 reconnect PS00 to P400 pin question

Also, check for a bad solder connection for pin 2 on both boards.
The board layout from the SM above shows JT01 pin 3 as the R channel. So maybe you discovered the problem??

Its working now so i dont think thats the problem, it was hard to test above and bellow the board when connected in receiver. where do we look next?

I would first spray some contact cleaner into the socket and on the board pins, then work the connector on and off several times. From what you say, it sounds like the wire connector is not making contact with the PT00 board connector?

Here's what you can do...
  • insert your wire into the cable pin 1 and also pin 3
  • connect a jumper cable from the wire to the corresponding wire connector pin for 1 and 3
  • now see if you have continuity to the board

where do we look next?
STEP 6:
  1. Continue checking the path from JT03 pin 7 through the Volume control to JE02 pin 1.
  2. Rotate the Volume control and see if the resistance changes.
  3. The wire from JE02 pin 1 then goes to the PRE-OUT L Channel RCA connector. We have gone through the whole path from Aux In to Pre Out.
  4. At this point I am confused about the whole L channel/R channel thing. Now we are on the L channel where we started on the R? Somewhere it switched.

I found a wire off that i want to replace before i continue, im sure all of my moving things around caused this, its the center wire on J410, i just dont know where it connects.

The wire from J410 pin 2 goes to a couple of places (yellow arrow):
  1. R010 a 68 Ohm resistor (not sure where it is located. maybe next to the lamp V005)
  2. then to V005 lamp (not sure what that lamp is - connected to the selector)
  3. then to JZ17 on the PZ00 board

I cant find JE02. if I connect to pin 1 JE03 volume starts at .03 ohm and goes up to 15k but along the way jumps to 35k I will look again but ive looked at all connectors on that board,

I checked the board, the schematics show a AE02 but not AE03 but the board has an AE03 and not AE02 so i think i tested the right connector 1

I cant find JE02.
JE02 is outlined in light blue.
JE03 is outlined in purple.
They both go to the volume control, but different parts. I would need to trace it out to see what the difference is.

Did you really mean JE02 and JE03?

I see the issue now, its not on my board as per photo, I was reading 3 but 3 is missing and have been testing 2

I put the unit back together and checked all wires and connections, still no right channel, my new relay came today ,i can replace that, i notice if you have the slider to the right there is no sound at all until you turn the volume to the far left off, you get some crackling sounds coming out of the right speaker, that may be normal.

I have the replacement relay, i assume as per photo , top two pins get removed and i may have to file abit to get it to slide into board...

If the hole in the board is too small by just a little bit, sometimes you can just take a sharp Xacto knife and spin it around inside the PC hole just enough to trim it. Otherwise, you can use a drill bit to ream out the hole. Just make sure that there is enough copper left to be able to solder.

One thing that I noticed on you photo of JE02 and JE04 is that the wire colors are in reverse order.
JE02 is BLK, WHT, RED
JE04 is RED, WHT, BLK
Could one of those cables be installed backwards? Are they keyed to only insert in one direction? That might swap the L & R channels if it is backwards?
Let me know what you find.

the two connectors on the board are reversed , JE02 is 3,2,1 JE04 is 1,2,3

I installed the new relay, i cleaned a little of all of the traces for the pins , then after solder ,tested each trace to make sure each connection was solid, now the receiver only clicks once relay does not work. No sound either side????
