Thanks guys. This project has been quite and adventure. And lucky for me it ended better than I expected. Thankfully the knobs have no scratches or dings and I found a Marantz cover to use for the side vents that is a near perfect match. This receiver is just awesome to look at and listen to.
My wife just accepted a position in VT, so things are moving faster than I thought. Time to find a new home for this beauty. I will miss her...

Thanks, I just changed it. I drove up and back to Vermont twice this week. I am fried. I must have had 50 emails and texts asking for a price. Lesson learned....

Wow Sal, you kicked ass on this thing, it looks great!. I see the 2600's run around $6000. Non restored 2500's about $2500 plus $2000 in labor + parts = $4500+ parts
This is just a off the wall guess, but a guy should be getting $50-$60 an hour for high caliber work. How many hours do you have into this machine?

Thanks, and I agree. Someone who understands and appreciates the work put into this receiver will not hesitate to spend the money. These things are getting more rare day by day. I just spoke to someone yesterday who bought a 2500 that was destroyed by a fork lift! Terrible. Also a 2600 sold for almost 10K on ebay a while back! I think this receiver is well worth it. I'm sure their will be a buyer who agrees.
As beautiful as the 2500 is, that would definitely take me out of the running. If you want to maximize your profit, then eBay is definitely the way to go. Some one is going to be one lucky 2500 owner.

The 2285B you restored for me is not only gorgeous, it SOUNDS like a Marantz, not the crap they make today. thanks again Sal.Hello guys, this next project might be a group effort...
The short story is the shop i bought this from a guy who fired his tech after going insane trying to fix this. It's been collecting dust for about 5 years now.
The good news is that all the important stuff is here, the scope and transformer are working or so I'm told. And the faceplate is in excellent condition.
The bad news is that the wire harnesses are hacked. Cut here and there, wire fragments soldered to other wire ect. And there is absolutely no hardware. All of the sheet metal and machine screws are gone. I should be able to get them easily from McMastercarr though.
I will be jumping in and out of this as I have time, but I plan to give it one hell of a restoration! As long as my sanity, wife, and 10 month old son allow it...

I have both a fully recapped (Silmic II, Mundorf) 2226B and a PM8005, both are wonderful, and not that different - so at least some of what is made today is not crap at all, it is even made in japan

I'd like to add my compliments to Sal for such a magnificent restoration of the 2500. Another exception effort! The new owner will definitely be taking possession of a technical work of art, with outstanding sound reproduction capability.
I've been most fortunate to have Sal restore two (2) receivers for me and my wife: a 2330B (e), and a 2285B. The sound of each is nothing less than spectacular. As a 25 year plus audiophile who really appreciates superb sound reproduction, I can attest to Sal's outstanding restoration skills. Several of you contributed to Sal's rebuild of the 2330B(e) in the spring of this year; it's pictured at the left. We both thank you for your input and encouragement.

Listening to Sal's restored 2330B(e) was so impressive, I decided to sell my $20K system and buy the Marantz. I continue to be completely amazed at the sound the 2330B(e) produces after Sal's World Class efforts. (Coupled with Celestion Model 100 speakers) Additionally, Sal helped me find a pristine, mint 2285B, (with an original case) which he then completely restored. It has the same tuner as the 2330B(e), and is equally impressive. The FM on these models borders on CD quality.
It's nice to have this forum to publicly compliment Sal. When we first became acquainted this spring, he mentioned that he can be a "bit anal" when he does his restorations. As the recipient of two examples of his outstanding craftsmanship, that was "music to my ears." His attention to detail, his drive for excellence and his focus on musical clarity and exactness will serve him well for decades into the future. I can't overstate the quality of his work!
It's been a true pleasure to get to know Sal, his beautiful wife, and Sal III, their wonderful son (approaching his 1st birthday). Though I'll be sad to see them leave the Philadelphia area, I know they'll be very happy as they move to Vermont for their "next chapter."

very kind of you. I'm at a loss for words, but It has been a pleasure getting to know you and building your system. Its also been a great experience working with another "tuned ear" who appreciated the fine details while proving to my wife that i'm not crazy, lol. Enjoy and I look forward to our next project. Amazing job. I'm the guy who found your CL add and pinged you about the wooden cabinet last night. Curious, do you have a link to the power supply cap custom board you used during the restoration?
