2SC1116 Transistor dilemma.

To clarify, real one weighs 20.160g, 1st fake is 20.170g, 2nd is 20.090g.
It's really hard to say without better test equipment or actually blowing one up. Or cut the top off. Then I'll have 1 that works if it turns out to be real. Need one of those x-ray machines they use to see internal fractures in metal.

If you don't damage the cap (or the die/leads) removing it, you can just epoxy it back on. But genuine Sankens will be a little "tough" getting off. The fakes usually pop right off with ease.
Now if you can rig up a tester where you can put a load on it, then you can monitor the heat at certain current levels. If it gets hot before it should, you know it is fake. There are some videos on You Tube where people have rigged up testers for this purpose. Someone with a "real" curve tracer can perform the same tests and more.

I am not a good electronics designer, so keep in mind that you have a chemist trying to do electronics here, so be aware that high voltage is no joke. That said, by all means i am attaching the diagram and the printed circuit that i routed.
I built the circuit on cheap printed circuits, and then what did not work i modified by cutting tracks and soldering wires. The SOA_Tester has one circuit for testing NPN and another for testing PNP transistors. It drives the base of the transistor under test and you can adjust the base current. I used separate potentiometers for NPN and for PNP transistors.
The SOA_Test_Control is meant to hold relays and it is used to switch from the NPN to the PNP test. It uses relays to switch the polarity of the collector voltage, and it commutes between the leads that connect to NPN or PNP DUT.
The HV power supply that i used was a 220V to 110V transformer, rectified with a bridge and a 5600uF capacitor which then fed an adjustable current limit. I can not locate the schematic for that, but you can use an external power supply with this. My HV supply could only deliver some 30mA maximum, but I did test power transistors by disconnecting that power supply and connecting a 30V 2A power supply.

Well gents, an update. So I decided to go ahead and cut the top off 1, just to be sure and take a look at the results. It appears these are either insanely good copies or are in fact the real thing.20200913_182305.jpg

I have always had a good experience with "Wehavethatitem", whether with Orrin running it, Adelle running it, or now Joey running it. I know they always looked to buy and sell only Reputable/Genuine parts.
We are lucky to have places such as this, where we can buy many hard to find parts local, without having to take a chance on buying from the other side of the world, and waiting a month to get them, and keeping your fingers crossed that it will work.
