Sitting here analyzing what the actual cost of materials and Design / labor cost to build these the speakers and my estimate is each speaker cost anywhere from $4,000 to $9,000 each total cost to manufacture from putting pen to paper Concept in engineering to the final product.

Hi,

Well you forget to include the bronze horns in your estimate....20k manufacturing cost factored like typical speaker manufacturing mark-up makes just the horns 100k this is how a Harbeth that cost 1500 to make is 15k retail.

You could build a set of cabinets for your estimate....but to build aset of world-class cabinets...20k cost. The other bronze parts $ 6k


Unfortunately when you add up the parts it's more than your 4-9 thousand dollar estimate.

Here is a picture of the large BBC monitor. This 10 fold mark-up is requisite if you have distributors (sells to dealers) and wholesalers (dealers) that's why the public price (MSRP) is 10 fold the landed manufacturing cost... Just do the math... The well known company sells to a distributor for $4,500 the distributor sells to the dealer for $7500.00 and the dealer to the end-user $15,900. The manufacture's total cost with Everything might be $2,000... So they profit $2500 for every pair they sell. Do you think they sell at a loss? And this is how they stay in business. Direct sellers offer a stronger value because..it's direct to the consumer... The drawback is that you cannot walk down to your local hifi shop and try them out....It is there you'll find Polk HK... and if it's a high-end shop you might find Harbeth or even Wilson.
