4-way comparison: The Akai GXC-700 series unveiled!

Ah the GX-M10, fun decky! Amazing how that IPSS system works isn't it? With al the mechanics, and electro-mechanics, and early day logical port technology.. You kind of would expect it to glitch, but it never does. I did a full service on mine. If you do: be aware there are bipolair elco's hiding on the IPSS control PCB. And yes, that counter belt is critical. Mine was mint and fully serviced, but I couldn't sell it for much. No idea why really. I mean, it's a GX model, with awesome fluorescent LED indicators and the IPSS system.

And yes, that counter belt is critical.

Thanks! Yeah, I replaced the counter belt without issue, as well as the capstan belt. It's the last belt on the back left that activates the auto-stop that I haven't replaced yet. I won't do full service on it (I'll leave the PCB alone). That's a bit out of my comfort zone, I'm afraid. And yeah, that fluorescent VU is gorgeous.

GXC 730 seems very stable. After repair and modification.

Modification of playback and recording amplifier. I didn't like the -3dB on CrO² tapes. In addition, I get saturated with CrO². No problems with Fe²O³ tape. I did a little searching and am currently still fine-tuning it. Experiment with Darlington BC517, BC550 etc. Especially with Dolby, since the MPX filter is permanently integrated there. The device falls off at around 13kHz. As I said, I'm still there.
