Where were you in August 1968?

I had just come home from serving 15 months in Korea, in the Army.

Just coming down the chute!

San Francisco, just out of the Navy about three months, living in an old house on Army and Valencia St. with friends. That's where I had my Altec A7's and McIntosh MC30 mono tubes amps. Man, we use to rock that old house.

Frequently aboard a B-52, flying from point A to point A in the maximum amount of time allowed by the fuel on board (Migawd, boring!). :D

I had just turned 12 then, and so much was happening all around the world at that time. A few things I remember as if it was yesterday:

The assassinations of Martin Luther King and Bob Kennedy. ( MLK was shot in May, right? )
The student and labour rioting / striking in Paris that brought France to a halt in that month of May.
The invasion of Prague, in the then Republic of Checoslovakia , by the mighty Soviet tanks. This I think was only in august.

Back to the music.

Light my fire was a Jose Feliciano´s song? I have it on CD by him, but I thought it was a Doors original. One of my favourite songs of all time.

Born To Be Wild still rocks after all these years.

Creedence Clearwater Revival had just stormed the European scene. Or was that in 69?

In 1968? my mother was 5 and my dad was 4 and they hadn't even met yet.

Although that is a good list of songs. :music:

I was 11, hadn't really "discovered" rock 'n' roll yet. My dad bought his farm that year, we spent a LOT of time up there. He also bought a 1931 Model A coupe, a Model 40 John Deere tractor-a 2 cylinder "Poppin' Johnny", & I think got me a left-handed Browning T-bolt .22 rifle. '68 was a good year....

10 yrs. old and having nightmares about something called Sansui, Pioneer and Marantz. Now I know..........R1:music::yes:

I was stationed in Alameda and recovering from the Summer of Love

Living off-base in Oakland and having a great time with new friends. Living across the country from my home town (N. Babylon, NY) and discovering the wonderful state of California.

Getting ready for my 2nd cruise on the USS Kitty Hawk with VA-214.

to Hi-fi nut: Light My Fire WAS an original Doors song. Feliciano did a cover of it. He was very popular then.

I was 8 years old, living with my family in San Diego, at the time my dad was a Drill Instructor in the Marine Corps. I have all those songs somewhere in my music collection. Awesome post!

I was 15 and about to move to Denver with my folks. listening to the Beatles,Stones,Hendrix and anything else I could lay my hands on! Just finished my stint as Amahl in the operetta Amahl and the night visitors. Whew I was glad that was done !! And just lost my Godbrother who was a Green Beret.

Three West Pac cruises aboard the USS Coral Sea. We steamed with the Kitty Hawk more than once up in the Gulf of Tonken.

We use to play that Doors album on a reel to reel down in the After Gyro.

I hate to admit it, but 40 years ago seems like yesterday when you get to thinking about it. Life is short. Make hay while the sun shines.

Forty years ago you say? Damn! I remember every one of those songs like they were yesterday. Seems like it too! Have 'em all on vinyl and CD - and now in my iPod too. Just a Junior in High school at the time. Had a year under my belt at the time with a small but growing electronics retailer in the mall near home. That little Radio Shack thing worked out pretty well - at least for the next 25 years or so. Ah, the good old days! They don't make music like that anymore. I still play those songs and I still enjoy the memories of the good times that go along with them.

Wait a minute! It can't really be forty years ago - can it? :sigh:
