Music-wise, the radio here ran the whole gamut-from Country to Country & Western, w/maybe a tad of Bluegrass tossed in...There was one FM station my dad listened to in Knoxville-they played "Beautiful Music", which meant back then the stuff you heard on elevators or in Dentist's Offices. Nowadays, that genre is pretty much completely gone... Myself, I was prolly listening to stuff like "The 3rd Man Theme" by Anton Karas.

Dam Neck, VA--just east of NAS Oceana on the beach...

Where were you in August 1968?

I had just come home from serving 15 months in Korea, in the Army.

Stationed at a Navy school command (Guided Missile School) learning the electronics to support the Polaris missile systems aboard nuclear submarines.

Getting ready to start my third year of college. One of only a few freaks on a smallish southern campus -- before the country boys discovered weed.

Listening to my older sister album's (Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby Stills & Nash, Carol King, Sly & the Family Stone, Chamber Brothers, Doors, on the house Nutone sound/intercom system (had a Garrard turntable with ceramic cartidge). My intro to music and to the potential of a good audio system. The following year for my birthday my mom purchased my first stereo system from the Pasadena, CA Fedco Department store on Colorado Blvd (just west of Rosemead Blvd) (they had everything you could want). It was a Rotel receiver and Garrard Turntable and a pair of Advent speakers.

Sure do miss that set up:tears:!!!!!

I was ten years old and listening to that top ten list on my brand new "Realistic 9 Transistor AM Radio"

That was right before I was born... SO... It's safe to assume that my future father was getting it on to:

1. People Got To Be Free................................ Rascals

Just sayin'

10 years old, 4th grade, living in La Canada, CA. I was definitely a music-head by then. I remember the some of the famous/infamous Ed Sullivan shows. I also vividly remember my mom questioning my older brother about purchasing the Beatles "White" album 'cuz there was no track listing or other information on the cover: "How do you know what kind of music is on it?!". I has a portable STEREO cassette recorder with two, count 'em, two microphones. I would set each mic about a foot in front of each of my bro's speaker and record his albums, while sitting as quiet as possible on the bed. I had every click, pop, and mom's door-opening noise memorized! Boy, was I happy when I bought my first receiver (Sansui 9090 dB) with a tape loop, while in college (UC Riverside)!

I, too, was 12 in 1968. I'm getting teary-eyed reading some of these responses- I couldn't have said them better myself. Nice to hear of other people enjoying the music of that time.

And I also thank the military personnel for their service.

40 years ago I was Michael Bloomfield's road manager and spent my time listening to some of the best blues and R&B I've ever heard.

My hat is off to you, sir. Super Sessions was the one album that really got me into playing in bands myself. Mr. Bloomfield was one of those influences for me back then. Unfortunately, I was never able to see him perform as I lived in the small towns of eastern NC. You would have made up for any times I couldn't.

Cheers,

David

What dots........all I can remember is colors.....lots of colors, :D and smiling 'til your cheeks hurt. :lmao: Oh yea. I remember.

Dots => purple, yellow, red and then LOTS of Colors and smilin' till your cheeks hurt is absolutely right :D

Yep

Spent many days at Cubi Point, Saratoga! What a great place for a sailor. My original squadron (VAW-13) had a detachment there and would always put us up after a night in 'Po town. Had to take the Cattle Car from the gate back to Cubi Point.

How about Grande Island? Ever snorkel that reef?

Rick

I did, a buddy fried his genitals in the sun there after passing out in the rental skiff we had, Cool little fish you'd see there. But that was in 1973, and it was the Coral Sea {VA-94}
In 68 it was cruising around at Alki Beach in Seattle, smoked a lot of green leafy substance then, and yes, I did inhale.
