it weren't the bands, the decade sucked
some bands turned to syrup with the year of 1980... whyever
alike my 'til then beloved Ultravox - they where finished when they started "dancing with tears in their eyes"... :nono:

I think some great tunes came from the 80s. One of my favorite's is Red Balloon by Nina Hagen - a great antiwar song. I also think Squeeze was pretty good. XTC was also quite good and I just got some of their later albums from the library.
To categorize a whole decade worth of music as being NG is ludicrous.
While U2 wasn't exactly a 80s band they had their first hits in the 80s and no one can call their earlier efforts as unlistenable IMHO.

:scratch2: Well out of all the bands listed that suck, I think they have all done something I liked. Just what music do you like. Name a few bands. Turn me loose,Cum'on feel the noise,My,My My, once bit and twice shy,Oh mandy you came and you gave without taking, I'm leaving on a jet plane, I keep a close watch on this heart of mine Gutairs and cadillacs. Hollywood Hollywood swinging. Shake your booty,Strawberry letter 23,Well I see her face every where I go the bench in the park at the picture show. you and me baby aint nothing but mammals why don't we do it like they do on the discovery channel, I fought the law but the law won, in and out of classical,jazz, big band. honky tonk. now some of these bands might have done sounds I did not like like. Maybe these are just bands you don't like, that's cool, they made a lot of money from the people who do like them. This is my opinion not being in agreement with your opinion. Good post though it should stir up the pot. :thmbsp:

Spent a good part of the eighties doin' the local Boston rock scene (Am I giving away my age?) and didn't pay a lot of attention to the national acts. Bands like The Stompers, The Atlantics, New England, Del Fuego's, James Montgomery, and on and on. Lotsa good punk stuff around beantown then as well. I can't remember a lot of it, probably due to chemical excess back in the day, But I'm pretty sure I enjoyed myself.....
