'80's rock bands that sucked & still do......

Funny story (but sadly a true story): my brother decided one day to make a compilation of '80s songs for himself. He only could find 20 minutes of music worth recording so he gave up!

80's rappers SUCKED. I HATE RUN-D.M.C.:thumbsdn: :yuck: :uzi: :pistols: :puke: But their remake of Asmith's walk this way is not terrible, but definately not my favorite.

I see someone hit a soft spot for likely more than a few Rock fans.:nono: I'm glad a few others did the light flaming job for me.:whip: The thing nobody addressed at all that I think is the most important factor is the fact that Boston is a 70's band, not a stupid, lipstick wearing, 80's bisexual, ego-cheese, rock band.:smsex: Aerosmith is a 70's band as well. A bit closer to "cheese rock" maybe (another thread).

Back to the original topic. My answer ALL sucked and ALL still do....:puke:

2 lp's in the 70's, 1 in the 80's, 1 in the 90's SHRUGS..they still s*ck as someone else said... same sound same chords.....yeeetchhhh.

Slaughter
Stryper

Ratt

Do I have at least 1 in agreement that ALL the above just plain suck?

Russ

I agree on all EXCEPT Megadeth and Slayer. Although I am by no means a Metal afficianado, those two bands play some MEAN guitar! Particularly Dave Mustaine, who is one of the all-time guitar greats. Any guitar magazine you can find sings Mustaine's praises, but because he plays "Metal," the mainstream will never respect him or his music. Interestingly, they are also the only two bands that are still writing viable music and filling venues.

All of the other bands you named are generic 1980's riffs, goofy clothes, and hair. Garbage all the way.

Here's my take like it or not....

This threads sucks! Believe it or not every band that you've listed has a good atribute. Even the bands that I dislike from the eighties. Most of them could pen a good riff or a catchy melody. Something that most non musicians in their great critic chair cannot. I'm not the best guitarist, but I love how all non musicians can crucify the the talents of others. Maybe it's the liquor talking from the annual in-law Christmas party, but what this thread needs is a warm cup of shut the fu** up. Just listen to what you like. Frank Zappa said it best: "Shut up and play your guitar"

Sorry but this thread should have been buried a long time ago.

For the record Megadeath is very cool!

I had to look these up, as most 1980s bands were utterly forgettable.

Tom Tom Club
Prince
Quarterflash
Squeeze
Psychedelic Furs
Culture Club
Human League
John Cougar
Men at Work
Cyndi Lauper
The Fixx
Thomas Dolby
Bangles
INXS
Nena

Spandau Ballet
The The
Wham!

I had to stop there. The memories are too painful. I threatened to kill my college roommate if he didn't turn off that damn MTV and let me listen to some music. :uzi:

Tom Tom Club?
Human League??
INXS???
Spandau Ballet????
The The?????????
XTC????????????

Go and kick yourself in the butt right now then listen to those bands properly. :grumpy:

Slayer & Megadeth?

These blow the big donkiferous donk meat: Kiss (sans makeup), Faster Pussycat, LA Guns, Gorky Park, Britny Fox, Vixen, Kix, Tora Tora, Extreme, Skid Row, and Keel. (along with most listed above)

Exactly! Slayer and Megadeth were never girlie hair bands. And I think they rocked! But- that is why we have all this music:) I like to think I can find common music ground with just about anyone...

I see two more spinoff threads-Babe Musicians, and Ugly Guitarists-or heck, Ugly Musicians.
We have to get Steve Perry in there somehow.

But Steve could sing! Is there an uglier musician than Lyle Lovett? Hell is there an uglier homo sapien than Lyle Lovett? To his credit though he is wildly talented, and was married to a pretty attractive lady...

Several years back landed some great seats at Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth to see Lyle Lovett. Love to take my wife places and so off we went. Not knowing too much about him I was set to enjoy myself good or bad. He looked really bad bandaged-up, he got off on the wrong side of the horse. He was the most gracious performer I have ever seen. He shared the stage with his band and all got the spotlight and a knockout solo or two. He puts on a show that is a delight. If ever get a chance that guy will give you a show that may just change your mind.

Bad Bands?

Sadly the 80's have led us do to music video, along with the information age of this early century, into the age of mediocrity. The void has to be filled. Hence, more, and more commercial crap then ever. :sadwave:

Jeffn is right about XTC!!

How did XTC get listed as a junk 80's band?! Looks like someone went to allmusic.com and just cut & pasted a list! XTC was great - if I am not mistaken, they are considered by many in the USA to be the first "college rock," band, as they got a lot of college radio airplay. Very British and very jangly...sort of a slightly less-rockin' REM.

What he said.

Van HAGAR sucked . . Van Halen rocked :guitar:

any KISS after makeup and Ace Frehley (sp?) pretty much sucked . .c'mon . .heaven;'s on fire ?

ALL POPPY HAIRBANDS (winger, poison, Mr. Big, Killer Dwarfs, Slaughter(LAME LAME LAME), etc) although I did listen to them and go to the concerts to hook up with the big-hair / mallrat chicks

Megadeth does not suck . . great lyrics, great composition . . sure Dave's a little whiny sometimes, but give the guy a break

Metallica: Once Cliff Burton died, they were not the same (translation: THEY SUCKED); when And Justice for All came out I though it sucked, till I heard subsequent albums, then it suddenly sounded better :D

Accept: opened for Guns & Roses @ the Orpheum in Boston -they blew chunks

I think this whole post needs to be footnoted: IF THE BAND IN QUESTION SUCKS WHILE PLAYING LIVE, THEY AUTOMATICALLY SUCK. THAT is a true measure of a band, hair or no :thmbsp:

What I can't stand is a cover band that newbie listeners think is something great and original. Here is just one example: Motley Crue covering Brwonsville Station's classic "Smokin' In the Boys' Room." The Crue pussified that great song and everytime I heard it I wished the guys from Brownsville Station woulda come into the studio and kicked the Crue's skinny behinds.

The absolute worst rip-off 80s band had to be Kingdom Come with their pathetically inept Zeppelin ripoffs.

INXS and John Cougar? Great bands that don't belong on this thread, IMHO.

Wasn't The Knack a 70s band? "My Sharona" is a decent song but the rest of their output is dreck.

The Bangles? An okay group that had a couple good songs but Susanna Hoffs is so beautiful that I didn't care that she wasn't very good. If I wanted a good band fronted by a female I would listen to HEART or Blondie or The Pretenders, all of whom were/are fine bands.

I think you all can tell by my avatars where my loyalties lie. Most of the bands discussed in this thread wouldn't be good enough to be roadies for a band like CREAM.

Anyway, didn't we stop taking most Metal and Hair bands seriously when "THIS IS SPINAL TAP" punctured their poser balloons?

Iggy Pop is hardcore - Neil Young is hardcore - Kurt Cobain was hardcore - Johnny Cash and Buck Owens were hardcore - Crissy Hynde is hardcore. There is lots of good stuff out there so why waste time with the manufactured derivative phonies? For me a single Stooges album is worth more than all the output of all the hair bands combined. I guess the difference is talent and commitment - some have it and some............................

Sorry, but I've gotta disagree with that one. Susanna, IMHO, has a glorious voice, sexy one minute, heartbreaking the next. Try some album cuts instead of the singles -- "If She Knew What She Wants," "Dover Beach," and others.

not everyone has to like what you do. :thumbsdn:

although I like every band you mentioned. have some variety.
