A $9200 receiver? Really?

Screenshot_20220408-052943~2.png Maybe it's me, but I have a hard time believing that this re,ceiver is going to sell for this price. Plus a $200 shipping cost on top of it? I've seen these posted for $3k and thought that was outrageous!

I sold a nice 8" feild telescope on eBay and I shipped it from AZ to WV and it cost me $80, box was just under the max size allowed. Average cost I paid to ship receivers back East (including a monster NEC that was wider, taller and deeper than any receiver I ever saw before) was around $35 to $40 using Fed-Ex. Insurance is usually pretty cheap to add extra, not sure if they'd agree on the value if it was damaged though.

Not sure what these sold for when new, but $9,200 will buy you a pretty good new receiver that will out class this in every way. I doubt many people would be looking for a "receiver" if they were spending that much, but I think you get my point.

I bought my 2 sx1980's broken for 3000ish each.
1 is mint fully restored and the other is on the bench.
The work is extensive and very time consuming.
If I would ever sell them they wouldn't be cheap and they'll out perform most modern day garbage out there.
 
Those 1980s are pretty damn heavy. The shipping doesn’t surprise me. The price tag, on the other hand…(where’s that eye rolling emoji?)
 
Sellers can ask what they want, sometimes they get it, sometimes they don't.
TOL receivers from the golden years are bringing big money lately.
Even ones with issues can bring large $.
It's just the way it is.
I don't see what repair or maintenance it has had, if any. That can make a difference in what it sells for.
OH, IMO, $200 is NOT unreasonable for shipping. Thing weighs a ton, shipping costs seem to be rising regularly.
In addition assuming seller will properly package it there are materials to supply and time and effort packing and travel to/from wherever they ship it from.
 
Houses around here that were 325K in 2020 are now selling for 450K, and on busy streets. Burbs.
**** some new builds in meh locations have brought 700K.

So anything is possible.

There's all kinds of modern garbage that would best that unit.
 
Not what I would spend 9 large on. But there are a lot of different ways to participate in this hobby, and if it appeals to someone and is what they need, then its an understandable purchase for them. I certainly would not judge them for it.

Hmmm can 9200 buy the lust/desire I felt when I first saw that thing in the late 70's/early 80's and settled on a sx780 - with my paper route salary?.... I don't think so. The moment has passed.
