why not direkt drive instead of beltdrive?
I got plans for similar project, a breadmaker's already there...
 
LOL.. I hear you. The one I bought looked never used too, and it was nice. My wife already has one, so I didn't feel so bad about taking the one I got apart.. My wife wouldn't let me take hers apart :nono:
 
I didn't go direct drive because hooking the motor directly to the platter wasn't going to be too easy. Plus, with the way the drive ratio is set with the gears, I will get more torque, and I won't need to run the motor as slow than had I gone direct drive. I would have lost too much torque.
 
Well... I basically got it done..

I need to clean up the wiring, and clean it up a little, but over all, it works pretty good...

The one thing I don't like so much though is the speed of the platter.. BUT.. you sure do get a LOT of revolutions to make sure it's good and clean.... Trying to slow the motor doesn't work as good as I hoped, you start loosing torque, but I can slow it and still vac it.. just kinda touchy...

The clamp is pipe plug.. works out pretty good.. One small detail I didn't think out was the colt in the center doesn't spin with the platter.. BUT.. it spins so that it doesn't tighten it, so with the nylon washed under the wing nut, it allows everything to spin under the wing nut yet keeps enough pressure, and it all works out pretty good...

Couldn't find the vac I wanted, but this little one has about the perfect amount of suction.

Just got creative and made a catch can... Glad it's all hidden. Just need to get the vac mounted too.. It flips around from torque when you turn it on...

I found a really bad dirty and old dusty mold on it.. gave it a real quick sample.. noisy as hell.. cleaned it up.. aaaahhh.. pretty damn quiet.. I'm impressed what a good vac cleaning will do..

Looks like you have enough room to do a simple gear reduction. That way you have all the torque you need with a slow plater. If you did it right, you could go to just an on/off switch. Great job.
 
Just a big fishbowl we toss all of our corks in when we open a bottle... Something to take up floor space I guess...

I still need to get the wiring cleaned up, but otherwise, I'm happy with the results after cleaning a couple of albums.. Not sure exactly how much I have into it, but it is under $100, so more money left for buying albums than if I would have bought a VIP..
 
Problem was, finding a gear box, or the gears to make the reduction with. I can always change it around later if I can find something that will work... I was just using what I had and what I could find. I've still got my eyes open for something that will work, it was my thought from the beginning, but not easy to fill the thoughts..
 
You can get all the pullies and bearings on line. If you do not know that world, let me know. I deal with that kind of stuff all the time. Cheers.

I could probably figure out what I need, but I'm trying to do it on the cheap.. I'm sure I'll stumble on something I can use at a yard sale one of these days..

I agree, you've come this far and it's working. Don't want to double the cost on this last bit. Use it as is and something will present itself. Always does.
 
Wow! That's inspiring.

I've been tossing around ideas for an RCM for a while. Yours is the first stand-up unit I've seen. Great ergonomics. Wouldn't want to get any RSIs while using your RCM.

I like the way you mounted the switches.

One thought I've had about a potential rig would be to sound-insulate the box with the vac in it with something like Owens Corning 703.

Again, looks great and I bet it has improves the sound a few LPs already.
