ADS-910's

That is so true, the fun, frustration, and yet ultimately rewarding experience. The parasound 5125 is 185w at 4ohm, 125w at 8ohm per channel (used for the 880 which is 8ohm and all surround speakers also 8ohm), all 5 channel active. The sae a501 is 375w at 4ohm, 250w at 8ohm and has 2 channels. I checked out the Ricky Lee Jones on youtube, that is indeed a nice testing track, pure vocals and classic guitar. Makes a lot of sense, why you choose this track. The one I usually test is Boston their first album - More than a feelling, peace of mind, etc, just because I've known it my entire life. I'll get it right eventually.

How's the project going?

Speakers this size require help when lifting them unless your a twenty-thirty something. The stuff I use to lift when I was younger, now, nah, not worth possible injury. My good friend AKer Supercool recently bought a set and using a hand truck pulled them up a flight of stairs, and now his back is paying the price! I told him to wait for help, but understand his anxiousness to get them inside to start working on them.
I will say, off their stands, on carpet, they can be slid around pretty easily, and layed on their backs, can be blocked up off the rug to work on them.
They are amazing speakers. Anyway, good to hear you kept these beasts.
Glenn
Hey Glenn, I hopped on this thread cause I know you from other speaker issues that I've dealt with. I just got a pair of mid 1960's Frasiers and one of the woofers needs the tinsel lead repaired. Got any leads on who on AK can give me some advice?

Hey Jay!
I had to repair one on one of my 910 woofers a few months ago. Very easy and straight forward. Go to page 67 in this thread. I posted a couple pics. There’s plenty of suppliers for this type of braided wire, you just need to match the gauge. Got any pics?

Oh that's good to hear! I'll check page 67...here's my woofer:

Hard to see where the wire broke. Can you get a better angle?
I'll try and get a better shot tomorrow when it is brighter out than today...but I can say that there's about a half inch of tinsel lead left coming off the back of the cone.

That sounds very repairable.
Okay. I've got a good plan. I just ordered 2 sizes of wire from midwest speaker. Should be here by next weekend. That gives me time to make sure I've got the best tools for making the solder connection in there where it's kinda tight. Just to make sure this isn't a fools errand I hooked an alligator clip to the half inch of wire still on the back of the cone and the other to the appropriate spot. Speaker does work!
Thanks for the help!

Good news and LMK if you have any other questions.
Cheers, Glenn

@GD70 Did you ever install your LEDs Glenn?

I was biamping mine but started getting some distortion from somethere, so regressed back to a sinlge amp to try to narrow down the problem. Still not sure if it was the old SAE 4000 Crossover or an old amp. Maybe I will have some time to pin it down this week.

No, but I know I need to try them. I have to make the wire retainers to mount them properly. Lame excuse, I know!

Yes. I`m referring to the cutouts on the sides and there is a cutout on the top/bottom too. My thoughts were that they probably went to the top too.
