ADS, aDs, a/d/s/ Merit Badges

The badges are accomplishments. That's how I see the badges being dealt, nothing more. It's all just for fun.
.
I want to be minister propaganda. Call me Porkloin "Goebbels" DuBois.
Not only should there be a badge for that, but an entire damn uniform.

apparently fun and badges is working. Adam kaplow just joined, posted about having a slew of aDs including the 910. Probably reading this thread to see what kind of badging he can claim with his move from the 520 up the chains.

We don't need any Axis Powers Ministers of any kind on AK. Just don't want to go there.

You guys realize you're all F'n crazy?

Sorry I had to say that but I do understand.

I only own a single pair of L710s that I rescued from a pawn shop. They were asking $40 or 50 but this pair, being a rare foam surround version, of course had rotted foam. I used my training from years here at AK and pointed out that the speakers were worth next to nothing in their present condition. $10 later I had my ADS speakers! At that time there was no foam replacements for the 710 drivers so I sent them out to an old speaker repair guy who cut some surrounds down to fit. Thankfully he did a great job and all is good. BTW the cabinets on these are in excellent condition. All I needed to do is wipe them down with some Howards. Now I just need to decide what pair to add to the family.

Maybe I'm just a bit crazy too?

Your Mom's not glaring at you from across the kitchen table. You're amongst friends here.
Admit it, you want to wear the black uniform with a silver broach of an eagle with an ADS logo in his talons. Maybe some Wagner playing on a pair of L-2030s in a stone walled room and an angular blond awaiting your every command ("Helga, turn up the volume a bit!").
Fire up the mini-van and hit the road for that pair of 2030's for sale 2500 miles from your bunker. This empire you deny wanting to build is not going to rule itself with an iron fist.

Not at all. I want to wear what I want and I want to have a nice collection of merit badges, something colorful like stamps or real merit badges. I do not what to be required to put on a specific uniform for any reason. Adding to the regalia one needs to wear and collecting moves from something nice and light weight like stamps to something heavy and hard to handle like coins for the same 500 pieces one has.

Don't need 2030, got other speakers, just have, have had and have a variety of ADS at this time. I want Magicos or something of that ilk.

I used my training from years here at AK ... $10 later I had my ADS...no foam replacements for the 710 drivers ...sent them out ...repair guy...cut some surrounds down... the cabinets on these are in excellent condition... I...need to...add to the family.

Maybe I'm just a bit crazy too?

And getting that merit badge will make you that much more determined.

Beautiful Veneer work @Porkloin. Very nice. I have a pair of L810 cabs that were destroyed because a local seller whom I bought the speakers from, and paid her extra to deliver, couldn't carry them from her truck to the front door. My son called me from work to tell me she first pushed them half way, then by corner, dragged those speakers up 20 ft of Aggregate sidewalk with a grit value of -1000 (if there is such a thing). (face plant). In any case, I dismantled
them and when I have time, I'm thinking of veneering them in Birds Eye Maple?

THAT is a crying shame! It pains me when I read stories like this.
I say go for the veneer you want and make them gorgeous!
I'd say that side walk was more like a 5 grit!

Doesn't take much to make ya crazy with this hobby! I'm enjoying being crazy every day!

The rain over the years have washed away a lot of the cement bonding the aggregate so bad it's painful to walk on barefoot. Wife and I are in constant fear some kid is going to run up that walkway and trip and seriously hurt themselves. I'm looking at a diamond polisher to help sand the rocks down so they are less sharp. But you can imagine the destruction on the corners especially. I was in the process of starting a new thread thinking up uploading my 5.1 project ... still somewhat unfinished, but can't seem to find where on the front page of the forums in ADS topic to do so ... I'll figure it out .... beer ... need a beer.

Thanks Spicey.
If you could lay hands on that birdseye maple that looked like a 19th century relief map, people would sit and stare at it for hours. There was a posting here awhile back from a guy that used Bubinga that looked like it was 3-D, even in the photograph of it.

Love that veneer. IF I ever decide to reveneer the Angelica's, this is one of the top choices.

yes!!! .. Thats the one @Porkloin, and very much so @GD70. I knew from the very moment I'd seen a reconditioned ... JBL? ... from Kendrick Studio's YT vid that I want to do a Birds Eye. Late mother in law had a Birds Eye Bedroom Suit and it was a magnificent 3D. There are different color and pattern BE veneers. Only money ....

Apologize for derailing the thread .. So On topic, I have to start from the beginning of this thread and re-read the Merit Qualifications, but not sure at this point anyone's decided on a Merit for @porkloins contribution ... or did you?

spiceman is that 810 ver 2 perchance?

I'm sorry Finjima, I hadn't seen your post tell now. I believe it was Series II due to the crossover number, and possibly the parts numbers as they were the very same as the parts number on the L1230's. I was thinking at the time the Series I had different part numbers for the speakers, which I only learned later after buying them. Is there another way to tell?

S-50, we have not come up with the qualifications for any of the badges, but have a list with more suggestions coming on others to add.

As for old porkloin he already has a badge for those shiny speakers.

well it will say on the badge on the back L810/2 and you will have different part numbers for the speakers, we need to explore the differences between the 2 plus personally if I ever get my hands on a L810/2 I'm switching out my 1230 set for the 810/2 set to check it out and make a 1230/2 for shits and giggles

Oh that is so painful to read. Wasn't there some nice slippery lawn nearby instead? I have a pair of 1290s that need reveneering, but time is so precious during a Vermont summer, that it is a project on the back burner.

No sir, ... I have landscaped brick planters up the walk way. She did solve a problem for me. I only paid $100 for them and my intent was to see if they'll work out for my HT project. Then I was thinking if they do, I'll either keep them, or recondition and flip them for money for the parts I needed to build the custom surrounds. So ... she pretty much solved the problem where I was going to get the parts I needed. The @Porkloin gave me a good idea to possibly veneer the cabs ... I may be able to salvage them? I've never Veneered anything so we'll see?

They don't say L810/2 but I was looking for my parts list of ADS speakers someone did a while back, and for what ever reason ... I can't find that list? There were two or three references to L810 if memory serves me with part numbers associated with the speaker. In any case, mine have metal grills (minus the grill badges). I missed a very cheap auction of a pair of L1230 crossovers I would have liked to had for the Center. One of these days I want to switch the crossover out of the center with a L1230 and see what that's like (for shits and giggles of my own). I'll be glad to participate in any research if anyone needs me too. I can pull the parts and list the numbers on the cross over.

If anyone is interested the bay has a listing for parts on a L710 that could be used to make a center. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ADS-L710-Sp...295599?hash=item2f0818a46f:g:zzoAAOSwhilZaY0Q
