I’m am incredibly excited with that I was able to get this pair of l1590 tonight. I was nearly holding my breath all day hoping that someone didn’t mention to the seller what kind of a following these speakers have then pull the sale. But then my worries were all for naught when the garage door opened and there they were.
L1590 in rosewood with sequential serial numbers. The grills will need some coaxing to straighten but all was there. After pulling the grills I looks as if someone pushed the grill in against the mids and the cloth backing has stuck to them one side worse than the other. Also the top veneer is pulled up slightly in the center probably from a plant or something. Couldn’t wait to get them home and power them up. But before that I had to wait for the new owner of my previous pair of l1090/2’s to test drive on my system before we loaded them in the car. So after checking all switches and fuses I hooked them up to the Adcom GFP 1A and the Adcom GFA 545. Sound like what I perceive heaven to sound like.
I believe the music gods were smiling on me today.

After selling the L1090’s for $350

I got these for $150 and picked up a Sony surround receiver for work for $30

Agree with everyone! The rosewood versions are much harder to find. Did they come with the bases! They add a nice finish to them and add some extra stability. Congrats!

No base but I can probably make a pair just might need some dimensions from an original.
 
I didn't find a need for the bases when used on regular carpet but no one running around the house out of control. The 1290 and 1090 being of smaller footprint might have needed the base but the 1590/2 was sure footed.

Well-bought.
 
Well, congrats on that find, you went right to the top of the ADS pecking order with those 1590's. and rosewood no less. The drivers look to be in very good condition as well. I have only seen a few sets of those for sale locally(minnesota). and every time the price was near 1000.00 or more.
 
I saw these right after they were posted and knew I had no way to chase them down, I just had too much going on over the weekend. So I shared the ad to the ADS Facebook group page in the hopes an ADS fan would pick them up. I’m really happy that not only a group member got them but also an AK member!

If you decide they are long term for the #1 spot (even if you don't actually), just bite the bullet and have the mids and tweets rebuilt. Might give serious though to have the XOs done while you are at it. You can get the mids, tweets and XOs into the large flat rate USPS box........$20ish and Richard So picks up return shipping. I had that whole assembly done last November for my L1590/2. So complete, shipped both ways, looking at about $450. Worth it IMO for the end result and the long term service expectation.

It's a snug fit which is exactly what you want. Cushioning on top, bottom, sides and in between all components. Soft domes facing each other with spacers. I made spacers from small wood blocks just big enough to keep them from touching each other, held together with screws and nuts (bought purposely to get it done)

Anyhow, two words, "Worth it"

And, BTW, nice score !!

I agree that enjoyment should be the predominant goal. If the speakers end up in the top spot and the performance would like to be somewhat insured for the next 10-20 years, the rebuild is the cost of that insurance. Ferrofluid.

Also, the way I read the OP, the speakers were $500. Seems the proceeds of the 1090/2 were part of the tally. :idea:

Nope actually paid $150. Had sold the 1090’s the same day to make room. That’s Where the 350 comes in.
So $200 towards the plus side. I’ve had the 1090/2’s for a couple of years I think I paid $240.
Needless to say there wasn’t much complaining from my wife.
