ADS L2030 Restoration

With young kids, your time is challenged. You’ll get there. Your room is similar to our family room, 18 X 22 with 12 foot vaulted ceilings. My AR3s reside there, 12 feet apart and it sounds amazing in that room. Concert hall like! I’ve wanted to try the 910s there but my wife says otherwise!

Yes, I'll get there in time. Your room is very similar to mine and I know those 910's would really shine in there! Sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness instead of permission. :naughty:
 
I've been wanting "Someday", ever since I heard it on your 1590's. Still searching for for Chris Stapleton and Nils Lofgren locally. Yes, Someday DID sound fantastic. Very lovely space you have there Matt. Also agree with Glenn on the vaulted ceilings. I have them as well an love it.

Just found this thread and can't believe that I didn't see it sooner. Saw these for sale on the FB ADS fan page and followed the link. It's awesome!

I found a pair of 1230s over the summer and loving them. They're big until you see 2030s and then they're bookshelves. Still had to go buy a cheap 2 wheeler to get them in and up the stairs.

Like yours, my risers need replacing. Great to see the legwork done at as to materials and construction. Also sent the mids and tweeters to Richard So for overhaul with woofers going after the 1st of the year.

I’ll be sad to see the big ADS go, that’s for sure. They’ve been a labor of love and my reference speakers for the last 4 years. Those of you who know me know that’s an awful long time!

Until recently, I haven’t found another speaker that I thought would be an improvement over the 2030’s. The Thiel CS7’s left me wanting. They were sold a few weeks ago.

Last weekend I took a 40 minute drive to audition a pair of Ambience Grand Reference 1800’s. I listened to them powered by a 5wpc Art Audio PX25 and I was floored. Wow did they sound good! I listened to them back to back with a pair of Avantgarde DUO-XD’s and they held their own in solid fashion. Even besting them in some regards, in my opinion. I took them home that same day.

While the 2030's will find a new home, I won't be without ADS speakers. I still have a pair of L1590/2's and a pair of L710's. :D

Thank you! I agree, they are very good looking speakers. I'll probably start a separate thread on them in the near future with more details.

The sound...where to start...fast, dynamic, and detailed is a good start. Add in an incredibly spacious soundstage and pinpoint imaging. They're also quite punchy and dig deeper than you'd expect with only a single Seas 10" aluminum cone woofer in a rear-ported bass reflex cabinet. Contrary to my expectations and despite the 2030's having (4) 14" woofers, I don't find myself wanting in the bass department. In fact, I only have the level on the integrated Redgum amps around 25-30% and I'm totally satisfied with bass output and characteristics.

I should add that my room is incredibly challenging for sealed cabinet speakers. With the size and height of the vaulted ceiling, it's very difficult to pressurize at the listening position which is directly under the highest point of the ceiling. The 2030's have been the only sealed speakers I've been happy with in this room. My L1590/2's sound positively anemic in this room and I know they can dish out the bass!

I was watching that auction. Guess the buyer of mine got a GREAT deal which makes me feel good.

There's a lot of demand out there for 2030's. I would get "if you ever sell those" inquiries pretty regularly throughout my ownership. A few even mentioned cost-no-object to entice a sale.
