ADS L2030 Restoration

What a thread, read it from start to finish. A full restoration is always the most satisfying.

Not only a great find, but you really took care in making sure the speakers were set back to their original status. Even repairing the old grill cloth! That's really cool.

Nice work, and thanks for sharing with us. Threads like this make AK a great place to be.

Wow! Great acquisition Matt! I have always wanted to hear flagship Thiel speakers. Can't wait to find out how they image compared to the 2030s.
Congrats on the new house as well! You will have to start calling your residence "Matt's Asylum for Wayward Kick Ass Speakers"! :thumbsup:

So more details please! Just did a quick search and looks like there were variations with the mid and woofer drivers.

These are the original CS7's from ~1997. The CS7.2's were their successor and, while they used the same cabinets, the drivers were changed to Thiel's own custom design.

No, sir, they're only about 4" shorter than the 2030's. They're significantly narrower, but also deeper. They sure feel every bit as heavy!

It's been a while since I've posted an update. I've been enjoying a few other speakers over the last year or so and the 2030's have seen limited use. Yesterday I moved them back into position and I'm still floored by how good these things sound! The other speakers I've had in rotation have all had certain areas where they really shined and others where they were lacking. The 2030's are uncompromising. You get the immersive soundstage, image specificity, deep and percussive bass, smooth vocals, extended top end and have to give up NOTHING. Except maybe some real estate.

The measurement below is a 20-20k sweep with the mic at my listening position.

Thanks, Glenn! A new video is definitely in order. I've been waiting to get the sound panels installed on the ceiling, but that's taken longer than expected. Hopefully soon!

Awesome space Matt. I just picked up Eric Clapton Breeze album this past weekend to listen on the 1530's, and was just trying to imagine how that must sound on the 2030's in person.
