Interesting that you like the 710 better than the 880. No arguments, just making a note for the whens and ifs I get a chance to get the 880s

Thanks Gents. The chicks dig the Cuban mahogany. Julie Newmar came over for Teriyaki tri-tip the other night and tried to abscond with one of the 780s. I had to remind her that she really wasn't Catwoman (I loaned her the outfit for the evening) and there was no "bat-r-rang" in the near future if she scuffed the polyurethane.

Another ADS junky is born. Before you know it, you'll have the health savings account and too much space in the house devoted to all of the incremental steps up to a pair of 1590s. Get help before your living room looks like Easter Island.

Well, I only got to listen to L880 at the local store that sells vintage electronics. And I dont really know their condition/history, yet they looked pretty used. While mine I got to play with at home with the setup and music I know. But based even just on first impressions - 710's sounded better to me from the start.
Wish I had a chance to take them all home to play with for a while, but I still think I did pretty good.

Funny you say that. I may have a chance to look at some L 1290 later in a week. I'm almost afraid to go look at them - I really dont need any more speakers nor do I have extra money for it, but.......I just have to check them out. And then, who knows - if they impress me so much that I feel like spending serious money..... - we will see.

I think I found another reason to dislike my former L990's. No way Julie could caress them like that. One needs to have priorities!

If ADS could profit from the used market 40 years later, their manufacture of the same speaker in different sizes would've been a boon. I doubt that the bug can be cured - I know of a few guys that own the best ADS has to offer and still compulsively snap up every pair they come across.
Be happy with the great speakers that you have and resign yourself to spending time doing what we all have the gear for in the first place - enjoying music.

After seeing a number of different speakers, the ads are well built and if in decent shape, I'll buy whatever is cheap enough. Use em for a while in the other systems around the house and let them go as needed for folks that gotta have em. Parts are generally available and so is a quality repair as needed. So yes, I got the bug.

Was going to question if your story was true. Until I saw the picture proof.
Not necessarily. I can run mine with under 10 watts from a tube amp and get very good sound. My room is about 13 x 18. I don't crave rock concert levels but am happy with music and movies. They have a reasonably high sensitivity. They will likely be great with 80 watts. Good hunting.

Not a 2030 owner, but spent a good amount of time recently listening to a set. They're incredible. Even with a little 14 watt/channel tube amp, they're impressive in every way. With big amps, its even better.
The nice thing about ADS speakers is their efficiency. They can sound pretty great and put out plenty of volume with low power gear.

Eartha Kit and Lee Merriweather did justice to the Catwoman role, but Julie Newmar embodied it without effort. Even at the age of 7, the loins would get to twitching as I watched her (temporarily) thwarting the caped crusader.
If I knew what type of speakers that Julie Newmar listened to back in the day, I'd buy them.
