ok thanks. i'd sell them for that.
i'm just not familiar with ads values other than seeing people talk about the bigger ones.
ya i checked completed listings but only saw 1 pair that did not sell for $300.
i want to upgrade. i'm looking at a pair of pioneer hpm-100's.
eventually i plan on getting a pioneer sx-1250 but i'd kill for a sx-1980 lol.

Don't make your decision on our opinions but what your ears tell you. Don't get me wrong, I like my HPM-100's alot as many of us do, but I happen to like my L810's better. That might change down the road, but that's where I'm at now and why I've held on to my last pair of HPM-100's. Sometimes it's all about equipment matching well.
Is there anything you don't like about the ADS's? Maybe there's anyone local in the AK community that might have a pair of HPM's for you to listen to for a comparison?

I think it depends on the type of music environmen you're trying to create... For me, it's generally more of an ambient environment. I like to listen to jazz, classical, blues while I'm working in my shop. If I were into high-power, high-energy, lots of basss, then I'd go for the HPMs.

My L980's seem more Northridge, CA than Cambridge, MA.

Hey Tom do you have the l980's set up? What is in your main everyday system? I got my 1590's squared away rebuilt mids and correct tweeter from Mr. So. Not east coast at all.

There has been a pair for sale here locally in Seattle for the last month or so, and havent sold yet. Come with stands, no boxes and some cosmetic issue with one of the metal grills. So, 200.00-250.00 seems about right. Personally, I would keep them, but like others have said, it is your ears only who need to be pleased.

Those are not the same model. I have L-780s here and they are somewhat polite speakers but can take a lot of power and sound excellent all around.

When I had my L810's I bought a pair of HPM 100's to see what the fuss was all about. I kept the 100's for about two weeks and then sold them off. I kept my 810's for over two years. And ADS speakers rock just fine. :yes:

well i went and checked out the hpm100's and they did not do it for me. i just heard so much about the hpm100's over the years i thought i'd try them but i think i'll wait till i find a pair real cheap lol.
allthough they sounded good something just didn't sound right to me (could have been the equiptment hooked up to them too).
i think it's cause i'm used to horn speakers (jbl,klipsch,vintage jensen's).
unless i can find a really nice pair of vintage horn speakers i'll keep the L780'S for now. oh'well now the search continues for a kick ass vintage receiver.

My L980's come out in the summer for our neighborhood block party & then go back to sleep. I have the F900 stands for them as well as a spare driver set. When I am working out there sometimes I run them for background sound. I can say with confidence that they were the last pair to leave ADS because I was the one who assembled one and got the other before it went into the trash. Inside a I bounce around. Right now KEF C60's & AR Phantom 5.2 are in. The KEF's were curbside finds and the AR's from a yardsale for $10.

You run them outside? How do they do? I have a party comming up and had thought about renting some PA speakers. Maybe I'll try the ads outside. I don't really want anything to happen to them. I'm surprised you don't have the 980's in use. I'm sure this has been asked before but I'll ask anyway how do the 980's compare to the dual woofer towers 1090,1290,1590 ect.

They do fine, plenty loud - plenty bass. I lock everything down so no one can monkey with the levels. I'd put them between the L1290 & L1590 overall but they are really more like an L880 w/ mo' bass. They aren't in use because they are approaching something like unobtanium, just try and find a set for sale. The number of L980's, any series, in circulation is very few compared to the L1290 for instance. They have more chance for catastrophe out in my living room than 1-2X a year under tightly controlled circumstances.
