ADS L300 variants?

I was hoping to read this thread and see someone go into the various models of the ADS L300. There seems to be several versions of the L300 with some letter after the L300. Can someone distinquish the various L300 models?

I thought that had been covered here somewhere. I don't remember all the details but the differences were in the tweeters and in the mounting options.

As I recall, L300 was the home/indoor version. 300C had a non-sticky tweeter designed for dusty environments (C = car). I think 300CC was the kit which included mounting brackets and speakers with mounting holes on the top and the bottom.

L300 and/or 300C may have had a single mounting hole on the bottom for use on a stand.

Edit: As I think about it a bit more, I think it was like this:

300: the earliest version
L300: updated, maybe just a name change
L300W: Wooden enclosure
L300C: like the L300 but with the brackets and mounting provisions (threaded holes on top and bottom)
L300CC: like 300C but with the non-sticky domes

Some had convex grills (the later ones I think) but most of the ones I ever saw were flat.

I seem to recall them dropping the L prefix on the C versions at some point.

It was a confusing mess even back then.

Then there's the evolution of the 300 to the L310, which also had a few variants but shared the basic design elements of an aluminum cabinet, 130mm woofer, 25mm dome tweeter.

Does anyone have a link to that A/D/S model line up brochure? Has a photo of each model along with all the stats. Someone posted it a few years back. I cant seem to find it. But color brochure layout from ADS. I think it was just for the xx90's series.
 
Shows us the value of setting the links off as separate lines, instead of buried in a longer line of text. I learned something!

ADS L 470 /2 speakers

:smoke: hi people . ineed help ilike to know what kind of capacitors brand are use in ads (originals ). mr richard recomended the same caps ? 0... or upgrade them to sonicap ,solen or another . thanks iapreciated your opinion and help . hilly pwilson :nono:

I have some L-810's paired to a Pioneer SX-828 and have always been very satisfied. Would like to try them with a Harman Kardon 730 someday.
 
An ADS fairytale brought to you by AudioKarma

Thought you might like this little story of defeat and redemption in vintage speakerland. I've had a pair of L630s for two years ,that I thought sounded like mud, awful. And, I could swear sound was coming out of the tweeters. A couple of days ago, the opportunity came up to buy some L620s. I googled them, found a link and got to a thread on AudioKarma, where a guy was ranting about the same problem with L620s, that I had with my L630s. In the thread someone mentioned that the fuse on the back was a tweeter fuse, something I didn't know. I checked the fuses again, they were fine. Despair ensued. I took the tweets out of the cab for a better listen, and. . .nothing. More despair. But, then I noticed the condition of the fuse holders, kinda corroded. Contact cleaner to the rescue. I squirted them up, and yes ADS auditory bliss was mine!! It gave me the confidence to get the L620s, as well, in pristine condition for $35. They sound like they just came off the shelf, and I might like the sound more than their big brother's. They're two ways (I think the cabs are identical), also with 10" woofs, but they have less bass and midrange to impose on the high end clarity. Thanks again to all the AudioKarma folks. You saved my butt and then some!

That is an awesome idea.

I'm a 30 year old who has already had great experiences with the ADS L520, L780, L710, L300, L570, L690 and the l470.

I've used them with all power levels and with tubes and with class A, AB, and D amplification. I miss sealed speakers.

ADS was such a good brand.
