ADS Speakers

In my hunt I have found two sets of ADS , L520's and L9 's .. great speakers for what I have in them <$50.... still in basement on the recently scored 2238B ...
The Living room houses the Klipsch Heresy' s I scored at GW in Queens for a mere $15 , they are paired with my Marantz 2220 fully recapped *LED upgrade It beckons me daily.
 
ADS among my herd

Started collecting active speakers to compare to my Canton CA10' and 15's. Came across a pair of walnut ADS 1590's with original amps from a local estate of a long time audiophile. Once I auditioned them I was amazed at the lower end ability and picked up a pair of 910 monitors shortly thereafter. Both are excellent for rock and heavier blues. The Cantons still shine listening to jazz due to thier lighter low end though. I was intrigued by ADS's SAT/Sub combos so this spring I will be refurbishing walnut SAT6's with the matching passive sub I picked up on Epay last winter.

I always keep an eye out for any ADS as I believe they are among the best value out there for the money.

Oh, I just remembered I do have a pair of 1230"s in my shop which I retired to make room for two pair of Klipsch La Scalas I purchased at the recommendation of my tech.. Plan to refurbish the 1230's when I can get to them, and thought of doing a redesign of the bases to make them wall hanging. The shallow cabinet design of the 1230 would make this possible I think.

Not sure the acoustics would be favorable with those L1230 wall-mounted - in my experience they do better placed away from the wall a bit. Might want to experiment with that placement before you get too far into making parts etc.

John, thanks for the reminder on the 1230 placements. I have yet to come across any placement guidance on them so the creative side of me took over. I know the 910's are suggested 10" off the floor, and I have some Dahlquist DQ10's which are well known for being designed for 3 to 4 feet away from any wall. Your experience on the 1230's is well noted.
 
I bought a pair of L10's a month ago because the seem so rare, nice little speaker, and I just received a stunning pair of L700's today. I cannot believe the clear, crispness of the mid's and highs. I LOVE ADS!

Paradigm were the last speakers that I bought new in the late 90's, but I had them hooked up to a home theater system in a rather large room. I ditched the home theater years ago and needed decent speakers for the vintage stereo system I have today... I tried Klipsch RP-160M and JBL 4311B, both were okay but I discovered that ported speakers are very boomy in my small room. My search for the speakers that were just right ended when I found a set of ADS L570/2 bookshelf speakers that I could demo locally... they are my Goldilocks speakers. I did acquire a set of awesome 3-way L780/2 bookshelf speakers, but the 2-way 570's remain my favorites.

I have L880 series 1 since bought new in '85. Also have series 2 and L470/2.
Not trying to be critical. I understand room compromises in multipurpose rooms. If you can accommodate it. Try the L780's farther from the front wall, well into room. Many ADS owners think the midrange of thier 3-ways do shine.

I would love to bring them into the room, but space limitations prevent me from positioning the backside of the speakers more than 5" away from the wall.
