My thoughts?

ICK!

advents are beautiful speakers, and although I don't like the idea of painting them, to each their own.

If you do decide to paint them I would use something that is NOT latex based. This will make removal easier in the event you decide to sell them.

.....because if you do decide to sell them you will get next to nothing If they've been painted. I personally would simply drape black fabric over the cabinet if the wood bothers you. You can also get Advent Legacy speakers which have a much more modern, contemporary 'ikea' look to them. See the Advent Identification sticky at the top of the speaker forum for pictures of various models.

Again, I personally would not paint them. If you like the advent sound but what a different style, check out some other models.

If you paint them, their resale value will drop to zero unless you part out the drivers and electonic components. Just get some stretchy black nylon fabric and wrap the entire box in a big black "stocking."

If you must, use black stain. That way you'll at least see the wood grain.

Paint on wood will end up looking like crap.

The 25th anniversarys are not common. But the 5002/5012s are moreso- and the same speaker.

The 5002s are utility cabs, and not so bad to re-finish as you'd prefer.

The 5012s/25th anniversarys are loved, feature real veneer, quality bullnose edging, and staining them will get negative feedback from collectors and enthusiasts.

Still, they are your speakers. You have to live with them- not us.

Best advice if you do go this route is a nice sanding and a black stain, or have an auto body shop spray them piano-black gloss. Otherwise, they'll most likely come out looking pretty lousy and cheap.

Staining them black, if you want it to come out properly, is going to take some elbow grease. I bet you can do it successfully, if you are willing to invest the proper time and elbow grease into it.

Wow. ok I think I'll keep em wood. Jeez. Y'all can put the noose away. lol. I don't think ill be using them that long in the living room anyway. I'd like to get some sleek floor standing speakers. maybe some polks.

Yikes, an angry mob! :D

Don't sweat it man. People have strong opinions here. We do love our audio gear.
