Advent Loudspeaker based stereo system

Not to make this more confusing for you but here's another idea . That Pioneer SX 626 has pre out , main in jacks as did many receivers from that time period (which would be right in the same time frame as Large Advents) use the 626 as a pre-amp into the amplifier of your choice.
You could get the vintage look and sound with more than enough grunt to make your Advents sing for smaller money , I agree with Goido57 the price for vintage receivers (especially so called monster receivers) has gone way beyond sane these days.

Don't need a monster receiver for Advents. A 40-60 watt/channel upper end medium powered receiver will do the job happlly. A Pioneer SX 828 would be ideal, in Pioneer.

agreed , was running my OLA's with a MCS 3260 , good for 60 watts a channel , sounded real good too , up until the other Saturday night , my brothers were over the house add way too many drinks + out of control with the volume knob = toasted tweeter , and dammit i know better.

Yep. I'm taking a two hour trip to go buy this Lafayette receiver tomorrow and when my wife complains I'm blaming you guys. Strength in numbers
Lafayette sold many nice units. I think you'll be happy.

One needs to remain sober enough to hear when clipping starts and the sound goes down hill. Way too many drinks and no one 'knows better'. In my experience Advents sound like **** when a receiver is pushed to hard, though I understand the temptation. YMMV.

I have a local guy that has a bunch of equipment he'd like to sell all of it, maybe some of you would like the stuff too.. I can't buy it all.

Minor scratches here and there but overall nice, especially considering they are 46 years old. I wouldn't say I enjoyed the refoaming process, but hopefully they turned out alright.

advent front finished.jpg I don't know a good glue job from a bad one but it's in and they sound clean. I'll give it a day before I turn the volume up.

Hate to rain on your parade but the surround roll is supposed to go inward on the masionite version of the OLA woofers.

Other than that, nice clean job!

I did learn a little bit.. Like the glue bottle isn't ideal and a long syringe would be much more precise. Something that allows for a consistent bead.So should I try to break it loose now or wait? It's been a few hours.

That sort of thing happening is why I'm glad Magnepan fuses the tweeters. Yes I've blown them.

Others I'm sure will chime in but I'd try and take it apart before the glue is fully cured. If it is something like Aleen's Tacky glue isopropyl alcohol can help loosen things up. The surround likely get trashed in the process though.

They sound good. I emailed Cobb to see what he says to do but I’m not worried about it. Worse case scenario I buy new woofers and recap it. But, as is right now with a 60wpc pioneer AVR there was no distortion whatsoever. Loud, way too loud, but I ran Hatebreeds I will be heard through it at 0 and it ate it up while asking for more. I Invested more on breakfast this morning than I have in these speakers. If there’s a way to fix it I will, if not I’m still happy with them.
