Well got a mint pair of advent mini indoor outdoor speakers for 4.00,sound great,but how the hell does the metal grills come off,have tried wont come off.

Update got the covers off,just got to pop off,used a wide butter knife,the divers are mint ,no foam damage,just a lot
Of dust build up,used can of air to clean out the dust,I guess with the metal grills with holes lead to dust build up.

I picked up a pair of these speakers today for $9 at the Habitat for Humanity Restore. Of course the woofer foam has crumbled over time but otherwise they look new. Not a scratch or scuff on the cabinet. I've never refoamed speakers and really not able to now. As an alternative, I saw somewhere in the forum that baco99 may have complete replacement woofers. I read the indoor/outdoor version has a poly cone vs paper cone on the indoor only variety. I plan on using these as rear surrounds (I'm not an audiophile by any means. No doubt it shows.) so I don't know if paper or poly is better for that application. From my experince restoring antique vehicles, repairing original made in USA parts fit and outperform current stuff from China. There is a reputable shop in town that repairs audio equipment including re-foaming speakers. I'm going to his shop on Monday to see what he has to say.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Any experience with this vendor? Are these plug and play replacements. I suspect paying to have my orinals refoamed would be at least $60.

Im finishing my basement to include a moderate home theater.
I'd like to use these as rears with my Phase Tech PC-800's with factory new midrange and woofers up front. I bought these new and after a cross country move they've been in a closet for 25 years.
Other gear so far:
Klipsch Subwoofer
Denon AVRS750H
Still looking for a center channel.

Simply Speakers is a great vendor. Been around for a long time. I bought my first refoam kit from them 23 years ago for a pair of Advent Large. Excellent service.
I don't think you could go wrong with these 5 1/4" replacement drivers for the Advent Mini. Since they are for surrounds.
Keep the original drivers just in case you might want to try refoaming them later or would like to sell them.
Just be sure your center channel is voice
matched to your Phase Technology PC-800 speakers.
When I had a home theater set up I had matching center and front speakers from
the same brand and series of speakers.

I've been watching for a nice pre-owned Phase Tech center to come along. I've got at least a month before my basement is ready. New ones are way more than I need, want, or afford.
Funny story - I ordered the replacements for the PC800s from their manufacturing site in Florida. They build them to order onsite to original specs with USA parts. The amazing part is the lady that built my replacements is the same lady that built them for the speakers I bought in 1986. Nearly 40 years ago!

I think it would be suitable. It looks to be from the same series as your PC-800.
That is way cool! What are the odds you got to talk to the lady who made your speakers?
